05 Dodge Dakota SLT V8 Review

I used to have a gold 2005 Dakota with the V8 Magnum. It was a fun truck to drive and I miss it. My uncle bought it off the lot back in 2005 and it was in the family since. Sold it to a friend and bought a 2017 1500 a couple years ago but the Dakota is missed fasho!

Mine is '06 Quad Cab Laramie. J- code V8. High output. N code is standard V8. Love mine!! Heated leather seats, moonroof, 4x4, 3.92:1 axle with Anti Spin. Alpine subwoofer stereo. Love it!!

I picked an 03 version for 1500 , been my daily driver for about 8 months now and I've been putting some money into it, but I think I can sink 2 or 3 grand into it and still feel comfortable about it. I'm normally a bow tie guy but I love this truck!!!

I really like the dodge Dakota, I love the way it looks. It has a nice design. I have found one for sale and I would like to get it but I also found a Chevrolet Silverado 1500HD for sale. I want that 6.0L Chevy but I also want the Dodge Dakota.

@@jDot2414 I got mine and payed 2k but i had to fix it up sum and prolly got about 3.5k in it, it’s at 190k and runnin fine, engine don’t have a lot of power for v8, gotta get that looked into 😂

Just bought the same model as you, except with the quad cab and in 4x4z Vehicle has over 100k miles on it, so I’m really hoping I don’t regret my purchase and can afford the gas. The dealership is fixing the power steering and a few other things before bringing me the truck. But I needed something to get me back into the mountains. Which Tonneau cover is that?

Man ive got an 05 v8 quadcab with 165k i just purchased but the front driver wheel makes a tin can sound between 30-35 mph have you had anything similar happen?

Good choice! I have been very happy with mine! I have heard that they like to leak transmission fluid, but isn’t that hard of a fix. Mine hasn’t had an issue with that tho. When I picked up my truck, (in video) it had 113,000 miles (181,800 KM) on it.

Really torn between a 96 Dodge Ram SLT 2500 v10 with 180k miles or one of these 05 Dakotas with 230k miles. 230 seems HIGH

For what its worth, I picked up my 2000 Dakota 4.7 Sport with 180k miles on it and then took it on a 10 hour round trip to a lake that has very very deep sand that a ton of people get stuck in. Its not lifted but has plenty of tire surface and using only street tires I had no trouble driving in 4wd in the deep sand. From the camp site to the waters edge is about 1.5 miles of pure sand, and it made that trek multiple times a day back and forth. The engine sounds healthy, it drives straight all the time, I get about 16-18mpg and its more than a solid truck. Ice and snow so far is a breeze. 230k does seem like a lot, but if the truck runs this healthy at 180k, and with only standard maintenance I dont think another 50k is going to do much. Even at 22 years old the truck is worth keeping, the transmission is auto but when that goes I intend on replacing it myself, and same with the transfer case. I should note that I have not had any issues with the 4x4 or transmission yet. So far its the best truck Ive owned, and Ive owned Ram 1500s and F150s.

You are missing out on a longer bed. Very nice for those who haul brush, atvs, dirt bikes, tool boxes. It’s not for everyone, but I can’t own a truck with a bed shorter than 6.5’ long.

I'd prefer the crew cab in case I'd have to drive my little siblings somewhere or get groceries. Regular back doors are much easier but it's all personal preference.

my 05 Dakota Slt 4x4 was bought new. biggest piece of shit I've ever owned. from 2012 to 2020 its cost me $13,000 in repair costs.. constant suspension issues and every repair i swore would be the last. the transmissions in these things are utter crap!! it was garaged all its life so its clean. If I had a do over i would of dumped it in 2012. I had a 90 omni i bought and you couldn't kill it.. it did 0-60 in like 15 seconds but nothing went wrong with it.

Interesting I owned a 05 3.7 only problem I had was I had to replace the transmission & heads. I did put aftermarket suspension & other parts on maybe that’s why I didn’t run into those problems
