Well-written and conceived. They were my favorite 2 characters on the show. This was a truly innovative program, and these characters positively affected my own attitude on gay issues.

PS What was their back story? Was it that they were pretending to be "brothers" but it was all to apparent they were more than just that?

They weren’t pretending, you had to look into the context of the time period, people just assumed they were brothers because homosexuality wasn’t really talked about back then. With Norman Lear’s reputation, he was able to push the envelope more and show that there was more going on.
