It’s getting harder and harder to justify the price on a Ford Dana 60 Kingpin nowadays given that the SD Dana 60s are a much stronger unit with mods (ball joints eliminators, and ability to upgrade the stub shafts and 1550 unjoints. I have a D60 Kingpin in my bronco but I wish I would’ve gone the Super Duty route 3 years ago when the SD 60s could be had for $300, although ppl want a pretty penny now for the SD 60s
@Hvacoffroad Жыл бұрын
I had a kingpin 60 in my possession right before I swapped to tons. Like you said, found better support for upgrades with the SD60. Bought both SD axles for half the price I sold The KP ford 60.

Why are your coils so tweaked? And what truss and hi steer are you using?
@Hvacoffroad9 ай бұрын
My coils skipped leg day lol. It's the artec truss and barns weld on high steer arms.

How are those oem 1550s holding up?

Still holding up under the 43”s. Hopefully making another ride on them next month to AOP.

I believe much sharper turning radius is due to 1550 of dana super 60 ,almost 45 degree. changing from 1480 to 1550 inside dana 60 can improve turning radius?
@Hvacoffroad9 ай бұрын
I don’t think I gained any additional turning radius gains with these. The 1550 joint will withstand more abuse while the wheels are turned compared to the stock joints. I’m happy to report, I haven’t had an issue with these shafts or joints since installing. I’ve probably wheeled 10 -12 rough weekends on these.

What do you think about running slugs in a daily driven F450? I mean every Cummins is essentially setup like a wrangler where the hub bearing is splined directly to the shafts. They say it saves wear, but honestly how much could it be? Better than dealing with the factory auto plastic junk failing.
@Hvacoffroad2 жыл бұрын
I do like the simplicity and strength of the slugs. For an off-road a only rig, it’s a no-brainer. For a street vehicle you’ll probably notice some binding at full lock on the steering and a slight drop in fuel mileage.
@jaredcoleman42482 жыл бұрын
Daily driven I feel is gonna want to walk a lot and definitely gonna feel it pulling while trying to park and tight maneuvering such as parking lots
@nate40362 жыл бұрын
@@jaredcoleman4248 I thought so myself, but my vacuum stopped locking in, I manually locked em and forgot about it. Drove 3 days like that til I realized it. That was towing a gooseneck as well. I really would like to do slugs now I’ve experienced it locked
@Faolan1619 ай бұрын
Dodge uses solid hubs with the axle bolted to the hub like a FWD. No difference in driving capacity, though as a daily driver you will wear u-joints more than with locking hubs. Mine's an 05, no axle unlock like '01 or my '16... completely drivable, with no vibrations at high speed like the old style manual hubs.
@nate40369 ай бұрын
@@Faolan161 yea, I’m going to do em. 450s weight and then compounded with the 19.5 wheel/tire mass is destructive to plastic lockouts. I drive my TJ or WJ anytime I’m not in my truck and I don’t notice any difference in driving feel.
@johnwalker8632 жыл бұрын
Oh and you had the older light duty in there. U were better off w just going back to those. You'll see what I mean when u start bouncing around and vibrating that front end . Those heavy duty shafts n yokes & u joints will destroy vac seal and whole assy starts moving around tearing up parts in there.
@Hvacoffroad2 жыл бұрын
I got one ride out of the stock shafts, before I broke the ears and ujoints. I've got 4 rides on the new upgrades. Time will tell how well they hold up and what the do to the seals. So far, the new shafts have a better record.
@@Hvacoffroad to my understanding after this upgrade you’ll pick up steering degrees? I’m I correct? Did you notice a turning radius difference (tighter)
@Hvacoffroad2 жыл бұрын
@@jaredcoleman4248 I can't really answer that question due to my steering configuration. My weld on high steer knuckles don't allow full steering due to the positioning of the drag link location. That's something intend to correct soon. Right now it's like steering a school bus up the trails.
@jaredcoleman42482 жыл бұрын
@@Hvacoffroad 😂😂😂😂 a school bus!! On my Squarebody I have Barnes weld on with my drag link in the middle hole and tie rod heims on furthest hole forward, now I’m wondering if my PSC ram will be my limiting link hmmmmm thanks for the video and the input man, big help! But my daily F350 is all stock and could definitely use the little extra steering degrees

@Hvacoffroad2 жыл бұрын
@@jakep9086 did yours fail at the ujoint/ear area? The 1550s have more meat around the caps. I'm please with them so far. If they break, I'll probably stick with these over cromos, just due to price. I've beat on them for a couple trip and they have held together. Time will tell. Cheers!
@jakep90862 жыл бұрын
@@Hvacoffroad yea first one broke because the c clips backed out. Tacked the c clips then the second one snapped the ears. But they did take a beating. The 1550 might be just enough to where I don’t break anymore. Or even if they last a couple years they are def hard to beat for the price
