This is a great video. Very informative and explained extremely well. Here is some added information. Plan on buying new snap rings, if your hub and bearing kit doesn't come with them, and if you don't need them return them. If you live in the north plan on soaking the snap rings with panther p!$$ and using heat. About the upper ball joint, check for a recessed hex socket (allen wrench is what I used) that will stop it from spinning on removal and reinstall. When renting the tool from O'Reilly Auto, CHECK IT OVER. Make sure all the pieces slide on and off the bolt and make sure you have all the correct ones, including the bolts to fasten the horseshoes to the clamp. When removing your hub and setting up the horseshoe clamp, you will need to align it so it rests against the flat spots on your knuckle. I was having an issue where the clamp was tapering away from the knuckle, once I was able to get it to rest on those spots, the hub slide right out. Thank you again for this great video. I have never pressed bearings in before and I would feel comfortable doing this again, although I never want to do this again.

Just completed this job. I recommend at leadt a 4lb hammer for the upper control arm, a 2.5 wasnt cutting it for me.

You have to be careful where and how hard you hit though. You can break the cast knuckle or damage the threads on the ball joint.

FYI- there is no reason to remove the brake pads and caliper- just remove the bracket and leave the pads and caliper attached altogether. He did a lot of unnecessary work by removing the caliper and pads from the caliper bracket. Also, if you have a good impact driver, greasing anything is not necessary. Torquing it with your hands will NOT be this easy btw. Finally, freeze your bearing for 48 hours before you do this.

Removing the pads and caliper gives you a great opportunity to inspect all of that and make sure everything is moving freely. Also, lining that whole heavy assembly back up can be difficult, especially for someone with little to no experience. That's also a lot more weight to tie up during the repair, as well as a bigger object potentially getting in your way. So there is reasons to remove each component individually, however it is not 100% necessary. I rarely use impacts on pressing/pulling tools, and absolutely do not recommend someone with little experience doing it. You can't feel if things are binding up. Also you can easily put way more force on it than you should, which can damage the tool or the part you're trying to press/pull, possibly catastrophically to the point of causing personal injury. That is a LOT of energy stored up and when it let's loose, bad things can happen when shrapnel is flying at you at Mach Jesus. I do agree with freezing parts that are being pressed in. It might only shrink them by .0001 inch, but that little bit helps. If you have the means, you can put the part it's being pressed into in the oven at a low, but higher than ambient, temperature. Or leave it sit in the sun on a hot day right before doing the work. I must not have mentioned that in the video.

just to let folks know that kit he is using is about $700 bucks

It was under $400. When you rent it it's free because you get your money back when you return it undamaged.
