Thanks Matt, great detailed video. Are you also going to cover a video on an air filter? Im about to buy a laser but I’m also concerned about the fume coming out of the exhaust.
@MWLaser
@MWLaser 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, No I will not be going over air filters in this DIY Laser Build series.. However there are various options you can use. If you are in a work space where you can vent directly outside like I am then no filter is required (so long as you don't misuse the laser and cut material is safe and does not release toxic fumes), or you can divert your exhaust air through a HEPA or Activated Carbon Filter. If you are cutting or engraving timbers and paper products, you will find that the filters choke up quickly so you would need a cheaper pre-filter that can be replaced or cleaned regularly. I have purchased an Activated carbon cylinder filter to test out and I plan to do a build video in the future, but not a high priority for me. Cheers Matt

Hi Matt, Great video, Im currently going to be building my own laser engraver. Ordering parts from CloudRay Laser. Will you be getting a Transformer for you laser engraver? I had one come with my K40 clone. Is the EMI filter necessary? and what benefits does it provide?
@MWLaser
@MWLaser 4 жыл бұрын
G'day, A basic explanation of an EMI filter is that they remove / filter electrical interference noise from devices on the same mains power circuit and surrounding electronic devices. By filtering out these electrical noise frequencies it helps to ensure the laser machine runs without this type of interference to the controller, stepper drivers and motors. It is not essential but recommended. Sorry I'm Not sure what transformer you mean, I don't recognise a need for one on this build. Unless you mean something different and I misunderstood. Cheers Matt

Matt, your timing on this project is amazing. I have a few questions before I start ordering parts. I'm actually hoping to build a dual-tube setup with the 90w and a 150w with dual heads. Do you see any reason the same idea wouldn't work well with the 1400x1000 bed size? I'm hoping to cut plastic sheet and fit four 18"x24" in the machine at a time. Do you feel the 90w tube can go low power enough for detailed engraving? We also hope to cut some paper/ cardstock in the machine. That's why I was thinking about the dual laser setup. "The stepper motors I use are Leadshine 573S15-L and 573S09-L" --- these are for the X and Y correct? Both using the 3DM580 drivers? The DMA860H driver is for the bed control correct? It comes with the kit as well as the motors correct? Any problems I should expect or look out for?? Thanks! Frank

Hello. Thanks for this great video, it helps a lot. I have question though. I find other electronics schemes that use 2 24 V power supplies instead of 1 24V and 1 36V like in your machine. Someone I know has a laser that has 1 24V and 1 48V power supply. What is the reason for that? And can you give me any hint so that I can learn more about cnc laser electronics?
@MWLaser
@MWLaser 3 жыл бұрын
the various Voltage PSU are installed depending on what your components require. some require 5v some 24V and 36V 48V etc, so you install the PSUs that you require for your build. 2x 24 V psu would be suitable for some builds if you have 1 for the controller and 1 for the motors and drivers. be sure to have a psu that has sufficient voltage and watts for the components you install
@MuttakiNL
@MuttakiNL 3 жыл бұрын
@@MWLaser Thank you for your response. For the motor driver you used in this build Cloudray indicates that the working voltage is between 18 and 50. So what is the reason we use a 36 V power supply? I have seen someone using a 48 V on KZbin saying that it would work more powerfully. Does that make sense? Also since it is between the range why not use 24 V, thus why not connect only one 24 V power supply to both motor drivers and the controller? It might be obvious I am not familiar with electronics at all. It would be great help for me if you can direct me to any guide or documentation or tutorials about these. I just assumed you might have few sources in your mind, otherwise don't bother, I'm already looking for those.

I'm working up a list of parts to build my own in a similar style to this but I have a question about the control. If I'm going to be using a PC as the control source, do I still need the screen panel?
@MWLaser

yes
@agentx250
@agentx250 3 жыл бұрын
@@MWLaser That's disappointing. So is that panel primarily required for the laser or is it fundamental to the entire electronic package used here? - I'm basing my design largely off the motor array that ThisOldTony used in his mill conversion, so closed loop servos rather than steppers. Ideally I'd like to rely on a PC as the control input and cut out anything that's redundant or extra. - Do you have any good resources you recommend reading/watching on this?

@@franciscolucivando9122 I'm experiencing same problem right now (not the same motors, or drivers as yours) .. I spoke to the local seller and he confirmed, those steppers are not assembled with original chipset, so I actually bought fake cheap steppers, which can't handle current and the voltage. I believe, I can stop hissing my motors and significantly improve their behaviour with new, more expensive (but original) steppers with some nice features, like automatic current regulation, or silent mode.. In most cases (as I did my research), replacing steppers always helped (So try to check if they are not fake ones) .. In a week or so, I should get new steppers, so will connect them and report if anything changed. Hope you have sorted it out meanwhile.

Your videos are well done, but I got to say. Some of the things you do don't make a lot of sense in the performance aspect of the equation. The main one being adding all that unnecessary weight to the nozzle. SPT's new integrated red dot tubes are where it's at if you must have one. Anyhow, reducing nozzle weight is one of the most critical things you can do yet gets over looked more than just about everything else. Increased Dynamic loads and loss of acceleration/deceleration speeds are the real problem with home built and 99% of all Chinese kit and prebuilt units. The carts and nozzles are way to heavy. Attaching more junk to them is a terrible idea.
@MWLaser
@MWLaser 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, I do use a beam combiner on my machines, eliminating the red dot from the laser nozzle tube.
