Or even if you can understand Korean, it's all extraneous crap. Speaking of extraneous crap, the instrumentation is pretty much shit. This has always been my favorite, non-secular, more or less contemporary (ie nineteenth century or later) carol. And, IMO the piece is _always_ better when done simply; either a cappella or a single, guitar or piano accompanist. When it's over-produced, which, sad to say, this production is guilty of, the number loses all its charm, and everything which has long made it one of the best. Sad, with her wonderful voice the piece could be performed so brilliantly.

I think the timing is also very amazing. Like a miracle for her to share her Christian belief. I did some research, and apparently the theme of that week's competition is to sing the first song which the competitors publicly performed. So for her it was Oh Holy Night (from Christmas Eve in 2000, I believe?), which coincided with the timing of this performance, one day before Christmas Eve.

많은분들이 그랬을겁니다. 이분의 고음에 너무 놀라 영상을 하나.. 둘.. 셋 찾아 보게 되는것... 그러면 두번째로 이분의 노래 기술 테크닉에 놀라게 됩니다. 지금껏 인생을 살아오며 그 누구한테도 들어보지 못한 정말 말도 안되는 음악적 기술들이 들리기 시작합니다. 그렇게 또 다시 영상을 계속 찾아보다 소향님의 인터뷰나 비하인드 스토리 등등 까지 보게 되는데.. 정말 무슨말이 필요 할까요. 이분의 마음씨는 정말 천사 그 자체입니다. 그녀가 그동안 살아온 삶, 그녀가 노래를 하는 이유.. 진짜 이런 사람은 절대 없을거야라는 제 편견을 무참히 깨버린. 정말 이런 사람이 이 세상에 존재하는구나를 알게 해준 사람입니다. 처음엔 고음으로 그녀를 알게 되었지만, 지금은 이 분의 투명한 마음, 누군가에게 위로가 되주고 싶은 노래, 사랑을 전파시키는 노래.. 소향님의 노래 혹은 커버곡들 가사를 보시면 알겠지만 '이 노래를 듣고 힘을 내!^^ 넌 할수 있어' 라는 위로의 노래가 대부분을 차지 합니다... 진짜 천사.. 그녀.. 그 자체가 좋습니다. 먼 훗날 제가 천사를 혹시나 보게 된다면 이 분의 모습이 아닐까 생각합니다.

@11 11 nah..not getting defensive at all. just found these kind of comments are just funny. you just need to check the span of their "full connected voice" when they sing this song. if the standard is a full connected voice range, then not many can sing this song the way sohyang does. she sings this from C4 to D6 2 octave 2 semitone, in full connected voice, the low will be too low and the high would be too high for many of other singer's full connected voice range. the ones who sang more than 2 octave range usually flips to a falsetto or whistle register to reach "that money" note. :D good singers know their vocal instrument well, there's a reason why singer choose to start low on this song, there's a reason too why sohyang choose to start high. it depends on the arrangement. i saw a vid of jennifer hudson sing this song the span was just A3 to E5 in full voice. i saw morrisete doing this and her span was E3-G5 in full voice but the low notes just sound too low and the G5 belt are not supported in those videos. she has to flip to pure head after that otherwise she will sound harsh and has to switch to her whistle for the higher note. clearly she finds it easier to flip into her whistle register instead of trying to belt that G5 smoothly. celine does it from G3-D5. so now, why don't you tell me which singers sing this song more than 2 octave with a great low and great high note, so i can enjoy them too? btw english is a foreign language for me, so yeah hope i choose the right word to tell what i mean.
