It's my personal feeling that an academic approach to the data could help the theory develop and may allow the data to be addressed more rigorously. As for me initiating a PhD, that sounds fun, but it isn't easy to find a way to go back to sitting in school for a few years!

An idea for another book would be the History of Early Islam according to the data. I believe it would be a good read with Petra being the central point of the narrative. It could be a work of "fiction" of a probable account of Muhammad based of the historical evidence. Just a thought...

This is a good idea. But not with fiction. I am thinking that we should do a sequel film to The Sacred City, and maybe tell the story that the rocks tell. In discussing this with some of those around me, they think a comparative story might be better, because so many people in the west have no idea of the traditional account of the beginning of Islam, let alone a slightly different story. Also, the story the rocks tell is different from the revisionist stories that are becoming popular.

even Muslims historians told that Muhammad was coming far from North, from the Paran (Pharan) desert, this is up north, from the Red Sea, (up in north from the 2 branches). Al Tabari mentionne that Mecca was near by people called The Amelekites, and those were located at Mount Seir (this is near by Petra). this was in his book called Prophets and Patriachs ) vol 2, p. 73 (note sure about this page) but you can find this in his book.

Its clear the move of the Holy City from Petra to Mecca was strategic and carefully considered. Byzantium was still a threat and they knew exactly where Petra and Damascus were. Relocating in Mecca was far more remote, protected by desert and distance. The rituals of the Haj could not be well accommodated in the small area offered in Petra. The depopulation of Petra, and earthquakes sealed the deal.
