As a quilter I truly appreciate the level of craftsmanship and even art that go into these pieces. If I could afford it, I would pay ten times the stated price for one of these exquisite wall hangings. Not that I can afford it, but that is what they are worth.

The pricking & pouncing technique has been around for longer than I imagined.. When doing my machine embroidery apprenticeship 50 or so years ago we used this, but pricked with the needle of the machine. We also mixed our powder with kerosene & there was no need to then draw with a pencil... I am amazed at the talent of these gentlemen....

I'm totally amazed at the beauty of this art craft! Being a quilter I know we never get complete $ value and the rest is a work of love. These men are truly inspiring! It would take me at least 2 years to do what they do in 4 months! Thank you for highlighting this aspect of art, I shared it on Facebook to bring more awareness.

Alas, the treasure here! Inspiring! To spend even a short time learning this craft with these textile artists . . just to breathe the same sewing room air . . and thus begin some sort of quiltmaker osmosis. '. . ! Who wouldn't dream of enrollment in this sort of foreign exchange quilter program?! B-)

WOW I was mesmerized by these fantastic applique quilts. What a great video to watch. Just wish these people got more money for the work they do. They are totally amazing. It is sad they don't get what they deserve for their work. Although I would so love to own one of these, and willing to pay twice the price they go for. Had to show my partner this video and then my daughter as well. Thank you for showing this video. Very informative..

Those men are being short changed for their work. To think that their magnificent work is being sold us for under $700 is ridiculous they should be anywhere from 15 to $2,000 each

Bad news, the value of the UK pound has dropped dramatically. I don't know if it's because of the Britexit (leaving the EU), but the UK pound is about 1.2% of the US Dollar, so that means a 250 pound UK piece is now about $300 US. With respect to what these works can fetch at market guys, I feel ya. It takes me 40 to 60 hours to make an art quilt and see if they fetch more than $50 on Etsy or Ebay. The ability to starve while making beauty is the tradition of the artist.

I think someone ought to let Assome know that his work is worth more than that in American money-instead of taking advantage of him. This IS slave labor and you all have got to realize it.
@lilysmile21198 жыл бұрын
i agree with you
@Marialla.7 жыл бұрын
You are being arrogant in your assumptions. A slave is someone not free to do anything other than what their owner tells them. These are free craftsmen, doing work they choose, and proud to pass the business on to their children. Prices are relative. Just because four months of work would cost more in America doesn't mean it takes that much money to live on where he is.
@JOHANNA-qd6iz7 жыл бұрын
Don't be so bloody arrogant 4 months work then sold for peanuts is slave labour. Yes he is doing something he loves and wants to pass it on to his children so they don't starve. If he got a fair price he would not live hand to month like most do in his country, he could eat like a lord and live like a lord if he cared too. Most people want things for nothing, I would like to know how many people have bought his work for peanuts and gone on to sell it at a very high price.
@teampenit4 жыл бұрын
wow....so you think YOU know better than Assome what he needs to charge for his work? Why? I see a free man...you see what? a poor ignorant savage? why would you even think for a moment he needs YOU to roll up in his life and tell him what to do? Isn't that the very definition of colonialism? He is not less than you just because he lives in a different country and has different values than you. You are racist.
@teampenit4 жыл бұрын
@@JOHANNA-qd6iz oh right he needs YOU to tell us how he wants to live. He needs YOU to run over and 'rescue' him from the life HE HAS CHOSEN. You see a 'slave' because he isn't dressed like you, doesn't have the 'things' you have...I see an adult man from another culture doing the best he can with what he has where he is. It's beyond arrogant that YOU know more about how to run his life than he does. Look up the anti-war song "Sunshine"
