Johnny morrissey....a very underrated player....great headed goal!...moggsy lad...this game was in a run of 16 unbeaten games for EVERTON...finished 3rd in the league ...and Semi final of FA cup ....

Very brave header by Morrissey. Most players of today would pull out of situations like that in case they got clattered as he did here, I see it often. Morrissey was a terrific player, especially in the late 60s, early 70s teams.

Loved this clip saw most of these players at some point in live matches. Strange not to hear screams of total agony and players going down like they had been shot with a lee enfield rifle

Interesting, thanks. SB looking very different with the white wall round the pitch.

Peter Bonetti was a great keeper, and deserved better than to be remembered for a bad game for England in Mexico 70. That was it for his international career, but he was in the same class as Clemence and Shilton - and those two also made clangers to lose big games for England. All great keepers - but all great keepers have bad days. RIP The Cat and Clem.

No he wasn't as proven by that calamitous performance against Germany.
@whouster2 жыл бұрын
@@tonynesbit9673 So would you say Shilton's clanger against Poland in 73, or Clemence's howler against Scotland in 76 proved they were bad keepers? If you want to judge a keeper on a single performance, that's up to you.

Shilton's and clemence mistakes were not even in the same ballpark mate,bonetti s disastrous performance was in the quarter final of the world cup after we were 2 0 up,he was at fault for ALL 3 goals!the team didn't trust him that's why he hardly played for England, he was a competent goalie never a great one.

I watched Osgood's hilarious miss three times and each time the goal became more open. But, following that, the way he took the penalty was fantastic, 100% bottle.

Two great sides full of wonderful players. Examples of sportsmanship evident that you will not see these days.

Nowhere near offside for Tamblings goal. Great penalty save from the cat.
@ysgol34 жыл бұрын
He wouldn't have been offside today, but I think he was just ahead of the defender near him, so only one between him and the goal.
@hauntboy4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, clearly onside. If you freeze the picture at the moment it leaves Birchenall's boot, you can see that John Hurst by the penalty spot is making Tambling a yard or so onside.

Greg O'D .....no he was offside.....the linesman said so.....

Both could have won many more caps for England but for the consistent brilliance of Gordon Banks.

I was at that match. My dad’s pub (The Bishop Lacy in Chudleigh) organised a day trip from Devon to the West End on a Gray Cars coach with Roy Gilbert driving us there. Great day out but disappointed with Chelsea not winning!

I was at that game with my dad and uncle. About 40 years later I was watching Chelsea beat Arsenal in the Bishops Lacy while I was staying up the road at Harcombe House. Small world!

Wow, you’re not wrong there!

Even today you'd put money on Osgood scoring at 2.19 -a very rare bit of film of him missing ! You can tell he felt it the whole game; no pleasure at all from the penalty scored.
