In the midst of a record-breaking heat advisory in New York City, with temperature as high as 100 on the heat index, the so-called relief brought a bit more than we asked for.
A strong cold front moved in from the Northwest along with the very unstable and humid air masses triggered a line of clustered cells on the East Coast. The storm system prompted the NWS to issue a tornado warning in Pennsylvania, about a dozen flash flood warnings and nearly 50 severe thunderstorm warnings throughout the East.
Like always, most of my weather videos are shot from my "observation port" of my apartment. The storm is pretty incredible. It dumped 2 inches of rain in 1 hour (according to my rain gauge) brought gusty winds (rooftop anemometer registered a peak gust of 49.4 mph for my location), and several cloud-to-ground lightnings. In one instance, hail had also been reported, followed by flash floods and down trees. NYPD radio scanner of the 103-107 PCT also reported a woman struck by lightning in my neighborhood.
