07 Oops! I forgot a few...plus more printmaking (Part 1)

Here are a few more prints I forgot to include in my RECAP from video 6. This is my early journey into printing on a large gel plate (16x20). I've been gel printing for many years but never this large, until I went through a hard season losing my husband to brain injuries. I came across Fulton Sim at ‪@artwhisperer88‬ who inspires many of us with his minimalist printmaking sometimes inspired from other art masters.
I'm inspired by Fulton, but going my own way of exploration with printmaking. I hope I inspire you in some small way, too. If I can do this creative life, so can you.

Yes, Murphy's Oil Soap for brayers and the gel plate itself. Like you, I roll excess paint from the roller when I'm done with a color. I use a stack of single side printed computer paper handy, and some really great collage material often results too.

Yes, I love Murphy's Oil Soap. I have my tub with brayers now soaking and a little in my detergent bottle for cleaning the plate. Yes, I'm off-loading on computer paper, too, and some beauties result if one looks for them there. Thanks for your observations. I appreciate your feedback very much. One way to make sure they line up is to use a mask for the whole image area; e.g an aperture 15.5 “ x 19.5”. If you cut the mask from a sheet of your paper, you line up the print paper with the edges of the mask paper, which is placed on top of the “inked” plate.

Of course! What a great suggestion. Fulton calls it a bib, but I could just leave it in place. In later videos, I use a different method and have more successes.

The paints ate water based. If you're quick, you can carefully rub the edge bits off.

What kind of paper do you use?

I began using Somerset Velvet that I get from Dick Blick, but now I'm using Fabriano Hot Press watercolor paper. I've also used Dick Blick's watercolor paper at a cheaper price point. Thanks for asking and watching. I appreciate your question and any comments.
