Welcome back to episode 7 of my POV project!
Today we explore the streets of Toronto during our lovely winter overcast times. I took out the half frame camera for the first time to see how it plays with minimal light. Please enjoy!
If you have any film cameras you'd like to see a POV on, lemme know in the comment section below and I'll make a video about it!
(As long as it doesn't cost my soul, arm and leg, and my home combined which is over $50).

Interesting little camera for getting the best value out of film photography. I enjoyed watching your video and the results of the photos were really good, very inspiring I recently picked up an Olympus Pen EE half frame camera, absolutely mint condition fir £15. I'm looking forward to putting some film through it. I've added your channel, hopefully you'll connect with another retro photographer.👍

Woah, great steal on the Olympus Pen EE. Congrats! The Zuiko lens is so good. And yes, half-frame is a nice option now that film prices have went up. Thank you for the kind words and enjoying the video. I would love to see your results from the shoot. Happy shooting :)

Hello, my Ricoh won't stop winding after I take a shot so rather the winding half frame it wind half the roll. Do you know a solution?
@MayShi
@MayShi 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm..that's strange. Does it wind after every shot or around halfway?
@ROhBee178
@ROhBee178 Жыл бұрын
Did you wind the camera completely after loading the film? If not, then you have to wind after every couple of shots, which makes it feel like the camera won't stop winding. I hope this helps.

What's that cable on the side?
@MayShi
@MayShi Жыл бұрын
Not too sure what it was for. Think it could work like a cable release by attaching something to it to activate bulb mode. Just a guess!

Hi May, what do you think of the quality of the pictures that come out of this camera when compared to the other film camera you've used?
@MayShi
@MayShi 2 жыл бұрын
Hiya! Which film camera are you comparing this to? Comparing to other SLR and 35mm, I think the quality is definitely less in quality due to the fact that it is a half-frame which means the dimensions are smaller therefore the subjects are going to be less clear/sharp. It has a softer look as a result. Works great if that is what you are looking for.

@@MayShi right I was wondering what you thought of it compared to other 35 mil cameras like the Olympus mju etc.
@MayShi
@MayShi 2 жыл бұрын
I can't say cause I haven't tried the MJU myself. What you want to look for is a good lens over a camera if you searching for quality photos. What kind of things are you looking to use a film cam for?

@@Suhailagha I would say if it's more for leisure and quick snaps then a regular point and shoot film camera would work cause most use automatic settings. You can focus on the experience rather than the photos. The half frame is nice if you want extra shots but look into other point and shoots like to Nikon Zoom series. Super easy to use, pocketable and nice quality! Olympus MJU is kinda expensive for what you are shooting. Range for maybe $50-100ish

Any tips on how to get the most out of it? Recently got one, and I wanna know if I'm using it right.
@MayShi
@MayShi 2 жыл бұрын
There isn't really a wrong way of using it! I'd say take your time and don't be afraid to use it as a way to create sequece stories with your photos. When you hold it up it's portrait mode automatically so, that can be a bit of a takeback if you aren't used to half frames. It's less intimidating than SLRs, pretty good for street photography. Is there anything you'd like to know about it in particular?

I just got one and my notes are use it in lots of light if you can, but if you're in lower light the f2.8 can work but you'll need to be aware that its focus is fixed at about 5ft/1.7m . I've found this to actually be kind of nice though because you *can* focus, it's just done with your feet! And it also tends to put your subject at a pretty good distance for the format and lens, so I actually enjoy this aspect.
