It's nice to see you. Yep, our weather has been very hot. That's a nice project. Tractor pulls with real, everyday tractors- how neat! Your grandson is a cute litter feller. As my wife just said, his grandmother is into crochet work. He has a nice sweater.

Hi Jeffry, Thank you. My wife is a real star with crochet work - always making new things. Wish I was half as good at that! All best.

Chris, I have a small mill very similar to yours and I've been cursing if for not having a depth stop. I truly need to make one of those for mine...one more thing to keep me from running over to the drill press..although it is only one giant step! I want to make knives with "hidden pins" for the handles..just pins that don't protrude through the handle material, and this would be perfect for that! Wonderful shots of the outing..I love a good truck and tractor pull, and absolutely priceless shots of your grandson! Thanks for sharing, Chris. It is always a high point of my day to see an upload from you, my friend! :-)
@ChrisB2575 жыл бұрын
Hey Dale, Well - take a break from knives sometime and make yourself one! :) It was a challenge going through the approx 60 clips to make this very condensed video but at least it cut out much of my excessive waffle in the full version! Little Oliver is a star - though as time goes on he gets ever more ambitious and so we need eyes in the back of our heads - typical of a budding rebel LOL . ATB :)

A really nice and useful project, and the tractor pulling was very entertaining, a lot of time and effort goes into making these tractors, there is one local to me with a Rolls Royce Griffon engine, that sounds really nice on full chat. Enjoy the summer, we have already dropped to 35 deg (C)!
@ChrisB2575 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, "Dropped to 35''! That's still plenty hot enough! Can imagine the sound of Griffon - always enjoyed the big engines - Allisons and some large radials too. At the event I managed to get a position to be able to sit and so avoided much standing. ATB. :)

Great job on the quill stop. I wonder if the folks doing the tractor pull are loosing horsepower with all that rich fuel mixture.
@ChrisB2575 жыл бұрын
Hi Harold. Thanks. In fact the apparent rich mixture is pretty much the result of turbo help getting more fuel in - so extra horsepower. Smoke is pretty messy though! Take care. :)

@ChrisB2575 жыл бұрын
Hi David. Thank you. It was challenging trying to compress about 60 clips into a shorter video! The fireworks were amazing and of course the video doesn't really show the intense sound very well. As for Oliver - he may well have learned from me :)

So nice to enjoy my morning coffee with you and one of your videos once again. Those are classic home machine projects well worth sharing again. As always, your camera work is inspiring. I wonder if there are video cameras with a manual focus area aiming aid. I sure share your frustration with that. Stay cool friend! Mike

Hey Mike, Thanks. In fact the camera does have manual focus but due to laziness it tends to stay on auto! Just takes longer to set things up on manual. Over time though have learned to try and beat the auto problem... sometimes! ATB :)

Heat is a major factor Steve in much of summer but, biggest problem i have is my low back problem - it only gets worse and standing (weight bearing overall in fact) is a major barrier to shop time. I may do another 'cheat' sometime and revisit another old project. Wish I could be as active as you!

Hi Chris, had a look at one of your earlier videos and there is a drawing on there. Couldn't print it out but spent a few minutes drawing it out . I will metricate it and maybe get it into fusion 360. The drawing saves heaps of time and effort, mostly effort ! Thanks Dave PS Where about's are you in USA. I live in Perth Western Australia.Beautiful day 35C.
@ChrisB2573 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, I did work up some stuff using Inventor but didn't bother with dimensioning or going to a 2D dwg. if you can extrapolate in 360 that could be very useful. My location is in South Central Pennsylvania - right now, darned cold!

Hi Chris, welcome back. I have basically your same mill machine. I am studying a system allow me to make a stop for the travel and a lock for the quill. Just because i dont like the wedge design of the original quill lock.
@ChrisB2575 жыл бұрын
Thanks Cosimo. I think you'll find a decent quill stop well worth doing. :)
@richknudson51375 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, nice to see you again. I've been tinkering with the quill stop design for my 0704 also. I'm thinking I would like to incorporate a quill lock. I assume you were working in aluminum, except for the rod, correct? My youngest grandchild just turned 18 today, Aug. 18th. Jeez, they grow up so fast!
@ChrisB2575 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rich - yes, aluminum for all except the vertical rod. I did later change the locking knob to something with easier torque. My oldest g'child is now 14 - they sure grow up fast! :)
@davidjohnson6203 жыл бұрын
Hi I have a similar milling machine and need a quill stop. Can you post some drawings of the parts. Thanks Dave in Australia. Very hot here also at the moment.
@ChrisB2573 жыл бұрын
Hi David, Afraid no drawings available and haven't really the time right now to draw something up. In essence all you have to do if following my basic approach, is to take relevant dimensions from your machine to apply to the parts needed. Pause the video here and there and maybe take image grabs for referring to later. For instance, measure your quill diameter for the fit of the extension 'arm' - most dimensions are not really all that critical. I admit, I did make my set-up more or less "on-the-fly" without making dimensioned drawings.

Hi - thanks for asking. Much less shop time these days - due in part to the old back problem which makes standing for too long very problematic and also often extreme heat makes shop way too difficult for any long spells. Still hope to manage something now and again if possible.
