There was an error in the instructions. This one was really throwing me because I made my test block and one other block using the instructions. When you're cutting the Patch C parallelograms, the measurement between the angles should be 3". NOT the 3-1/2" shown in the first instructions. I have revised the instructions and you can download them - drive.google.com/file/d/1wjoQbI5Em9oapEcT6s_pn_kjmMr0G_VI/view?usp=sharing Sorry about that. If you've already cut out the C patches, I suggest you trim down those and test it out. Thank you all for bringing this to my attention!

I wish I could have given you 5 thumbs up. Or 5 stars. You did an amazing job showing the Y seam, I do hope many of the followers will give this block a try. To me, this along with the partial seam stitching, takes piecing to the next level. Thanks again Carol.

Absolutely a fantastic tutorial for the Y seams. 👏👏👏 I have made a table topper with Y seams, and usually learn from making mistakes, too bad your tutorial wasn’t around then. Love making Stars and just finished the Alaska quilt top, sandwiched and trying to mustard up the courage to top machine quilt it. Thank you for a excellent video on the Y seams within the Lemoyne star. 👍❤️😊

The LeMoyne Star is absolutely my favorite block. (and I bristle because I'm a LS snob when people try to pass of the HST look alike (not!) as a LeMoyne star. Thank you for your expert demonstration. Though I had a trail of tears in my mastery of this block (and it literally too me several months of trial and error--and I tried every single method before I adopted my preferences)--I encourage anyone to keep at it as it is the pinnacle of quilty skill. There is no other block with more deeply biased edges, and so many opportunities for failure. They are now second nature to me. Setting them on point gives additional real estate without much headache and creates beautiful hour glasses. MM's tool is a must have (it is a swiss army knife of corner marking/trims--and you know my ruler fetish!). It is useful too for sewing diamond offsets on strip sets as one can easily mark the seams for a perfect join. As I make lots of diamonds, I found that the Creative Grids Diamond Dimensions ruler is a real MVP. I have better luck sewing all of the diamonds together then insetting the triangles then the squares. Clipping the inside inset corner allows a perfect nestle of the triangle or square on the diamond shoulder. Thanks for showing this to your viewers. Worth noting that a quarter inch v. a scant is needed to get point clearance when sewing insets. I don't press my seams open, rather I spin them. I use scant 1/4 on sewing the diamonds. Also I recommend using a teflon coated fiberglass pressing mat to press in between as there will be absolutely no distortion on the bias. I see many makers advising against pressing, but frankly that never worked for me.

WOW thanks for all the wonderful suggestions and comments! I too love this star and there are so many ways to construct them. I have showed different ways in the past and my favorite is to piece the star points then add the corner squares and side triangles. Thanks for all your comments this past year, I appreciated them and have learned from them! Happy Thanksgiving to you!

@@CarolThelen Thank you Carol. You too! It's my favorite holiday. I'm getting a break this year...still real busy with work. My SIL is hosting so no EPA cleanup in the house...just make cranberry relish and my Maple Pecan Chocolate Tart!

Wonderful, thank you! I have never seen the Y-seam demonstrated as most quilters seem to avoid them. I am in a phase of working on better piecing skills and have been getting used to the Marti Michelle tool. Very helpful! Think it’s time to make the LeMoyne Star…Wondering how many afternoons I need to set aside for this one 🤣🤣🤣

What everyone is saying ‼️. For me, the very best part was when you talked about starting just BELOW the dot. I’ve always aimed exactly for the dot, with predictable issues being absolutely on target. Doy! Amazing, isn’t it, what that tiny speck of space can do for us. Thank you.
@CarolThelen Жыл бұрын
Exactly!! When I tried that a long time ago, I couldn't believe it worked! I think I was trying hand piecing then and saw how I got better results sewing right next to the dot instead of on top of it. Thanks for watching.

Carol, where can I find your LeMoyne Star quilt block cutting measurements for a 6 inch block? Would love to have them! Your video tutorial has inspired me to give this quilt block a try! Jenny
@CarolThelen2 ай бұрын
Hmm... I will have to look into that. have you tried paper piecing? The 6" block will have very small pieced.

This is one block that is worth building mastery. It is difficult because there is so much bias that has to be managed in the construction (from cutting to sewing to pressing). Perfect practice makes perfect on this block. You can do it.

Whew! Thought this would be a fun quick quilting idea… wrong. Just learning and I did not realize how complicated a star was to sew.

I have lemoyne stars I started 12 years ago and never finished. Thanks for tutorial! I am anxious to finish this quilt. How do I find sizing for smaller blocks??? Wish there was a chart.
@CarolThelen10 ай бұрын
It is harder to find different sizes in the pieced version of LeMoyne Star but there are a lot of paper piecing alternatives in different sizes. If you don't want to paper piece you could try using HST for this block. That would be easier to make smaller blocks. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Help, everything fits but the 4 inch square is toosmall. Anyidea what I did wrong?
@CarolThelen10 ай бұрын
The only suggestion I can make is to double check all your cuts. I am trying to figure out how I can tell you how to measure the star points to check their size but it is impossible without a diagram and I cannot upload a diagram on the comments section. The square shouldn't be too small so the star points are probably too large.
