A couple things I forgot to mention: GOOD - I’m ALWAYS pre-planned 1-3 loads out. BAD/ANNOYING - you have to enter in a 3-5 digit code before you can move the truck. Mine’s 5 digits and must be entered EVERY time I release the truck brakes 😡 You will also get FIRED IMMEDIATELY for doing a U-turn on a public road unless it’s under the direction of the police and recorded by the dash cam for proof

Land of the Free I have conditional offers from them for the jet set tanker and regular OTR positions. Their benefits are really expensive ($170ish/week just medical for a family) compared to others. For the jet set tanker, I was told 46 cpm about 1500 miles/week $25 load $35 unload. Comes out to a $50k-$75k range supposedly. 3 weeks on 1 week off (well...5 days at home book ended by travel days to get where you’re needed) Driver keeps the airline miles. Travel to and from airport and 2 checked bags are reimbursed or paid for. It’s slip seat which sucks but is understandable

Even if they pay less, long trips are far more profitable than the loading and unloading times involved in short trips. I worked for Knight about 15 years ago and really liked them. That was before the damn cameras, so I don't know how much things have changed. I only left because I moved to Asia. Utah was the place you could really get your speed up.

I only drove for a little over 4 months, worked for 2 different companies. It did not take long through experience and talking to other drivers to realize that the dispatcher got a bonus for every driver that reached 10,000 miles a month. I would run hard for 2 and half or 3 weeks. Then found myself sitting in a truck stop for days on end. I was being told there was no loads. It was amazing how once that 4 week period was over, loads were found and I was driving hard again for 2 and half to 3 weeks. For me it was the worst job I ever had.

Rushin' Truckin'... Thanks buddy for sharing this detailed information. I live in Citrus County Florida, and this was extremely helpful in the way you broke it down. I have done a exhausting amount of research in the Trucking field for 5 years straight now. Hard core over the past 6 months. I have made up my mind to go with Knight to start out with as it has been the 2nd best choice that I have come across as a whole, and that will be within the next few months. Just trying to get all my affairs in order, and be financially ready for at least a solid month before I head to Phoenix for CDL Training. I really wanted to start with Prime, but they just aren't hiring out of Florida. (at least not for now or anytime soon apparently.) I know they all say the 1st year is the toughest, and we all have to start somewhere. No shame in my game starting with Knight. Haven't heard anything too negative except for them STILL not having APU's. Yes, they have been talking about this whole "researching" into the APU's for a long long time now like another commenter said. That just might be a game changer for me to be honest, but I'm being hopeful as I have a good outlook on Knight and I want to do the best I can for them, and for myself. After that first year, if it's not what I thought, at least there will be tons of doors that open up right?? Thanks again and look forward to more Vlogs from you.

Ted Birkeland you’re welcome. If you’re not even in the game yet, consider Millis Transfer. They offer schooling for $500 then want you to drive for them for 1 year (you sign a contract to do so), but you’ll make great money that first year, get top notch training, and have the best equipment on the road. The only thing is, going with them and being out of Florida, you will have to sacrifice home time. I don’t know enough about Knights training program so I can’t comment on that without guessing. If you didn’t know, Millis is who I was with my first year

With 5 years experience at swift you would get 50c a mile and a 200 dollar bonus a week if you do a easy 2200 miles. So with the bonus you would earn about 1300 a week easy. Low pay for experienced drivers. Benefits are just ok. The idling program sucks (auto shut off on trucks between 36-70 degrees) unless you’re lucky enough to get a truck who’s auto shut off can be overridden. Prepare to be on hold for a long time when you need to call in. I had two different dispatches in my 5 months and had both of their cell phone #’s but they still rarely answer cuz they’re so busy. 30ish drivers per dispatcher (Driver Manager is what they call them).
