everything you said about this style sounds like heaven. Except for it looking straggling in the beginning but i get that nothing good comes easy. i can't stand combing my hair and a bunch of product in my hair. I have a consultant back home thankfully but i'm currently abroad in school so the 4 to 6 week maintenance thing is pretty much the only reason i feel like i can't really get these for now... :( I come home every 4-6 MONTHS, loll and there's no consultant where i am in Canada.

I had more problems with sister locks then I did with the perm. As soon as the back of my hair grows back, I will go back to traditional twists that looks much neater, doesn't take a lot of maintenance and they look more like locks. Sister locks is nothing but a money market.

Almocado, this is a good video. Certified consultants must first install them properly in order for the client to embrace their sisterlock journey. I had my first set for three months, took them down and got them reinstalled by a True professional who considered my hair type, density and other factors into consideration during my install. My first consultant (see video) was informed of my dissatisfaction and she pretended to fix the situation but didn't.

I am started transitioning about a year ago...I still have about a inch or so to cut off....for now it's all about fluffy 3 day old finger coils...I LUV THEM!!.....it is the best hair style for humid, damp or rainy whether....one of the things I also love about the Natural Hair Community here on the YT...is the fact that it's puts me in touch with other black communities all over the world....I love that!!....I have family members who have been sporting sisterlocks for about 10yrs or so...and for them it's looks great...but I don't think that it is for me....I love to explore new styles....I appreciate the information... Thanks for sharing!....Peace from the US

I have traditional locks, although they have been interlocked from the beginning. And I am now contemplating getting sisterlocks. Or at least getting the grid with large sized locs. i really don't know. I'm doing as much research as possible to see if I finally take the plunge.

This video is great. After listening to you and a few other women on this subject, I now know that SL are not for me. My hair is super thick and coarse. It's like brambles :D. I'm also tenderheaded. I used to do microbraids and microtwists and it got to be too much. Time consuming and painful. I will not have the patience to sit through sessions and maintain them. I fully support the movement and admire Dr Cromwell for the work that she has done.

just had my sisterlocks installed today . Never been to a hairdressers as I do hair myself and although this in a way is a new style its very much a journey for me . My hair was in very good condition going into the process. The install was really uncomfortable as i have never had plaits, or weaves I have always had realaxers but whilst being a hairdressers myself I have always been mindful of clients comfort and education about any services that I am providing . I do not feel like this was the case during my install and left looking like an electrocuted deer in headlights questioning did I make the right decision . The consultant is not aware of my vast experience with hair dressing so as a "newby "the instruction an education about care and aftercare was lacking and made me feel like I just wanted to comb them out . I arrived home and immediately dampened the roots and set about trying to create some kind of style that I would be able to feel comfortable going out with .But as soon as I can take the re tightening class I will as I am committed to sticking to it .....unless you are willing to take me on ? ..... As I live in the Uk and from the advice that you have given which was amazing I feel you have a holistic approach and understand that this journey is not just about hair..... So now my journey begins ...... Watch this space

It's a good idea to remind folks that with sisterlocks hair growth varies for many in that some may experience rapid hair growth or seasonal growth and others will experience a slower rate of growth. Also, textures can affect the locking timeline, and there are some that experience challenges in different areas of their head such as the front edges , crown, neck that may result in shorter locks in areas or unraveling with the thin sisterlocks. Finally, most want fullness first!
@supervirtuouswoman11 жыл бұрын
OMG! I needed this video, I had my sister locks for 3 years and I don't like them anymore, my hair texture is so soft and I have many straight hair strands, it takes a long time to lock, some is lock and some is not, some of my ends are fat and I have a lot of slippage most of the time. I figure at 3 years, my hair should look good. A lot of my hair has broken off in the back due to slippage and ends that were too big to thread through the base.

They should show this at salons. I agree. I'm almost at month 4. Still getting used to it. And yes I was a product junkie. Gave away 3 huge bags full of products. Still have somethings I can't part with...even though I don't use it

I'm considering Sisterlocks. Thank you for all of your information. It was very informative. I contact a registered trainee about a consult. She provided a lot information and was very helpful, but is it common to have your natural cut due the length? She suggested this but I'm not interested at all. Thanks in advance!

so, my scalp gets really dry and flaky after a few days without any oils or creams, my hair is addicted to creams because it is naturally dry so, since i cant use those products while locking, what do u recommend for my scalp during the process?

I am really thinking about sister locks. I have natural hair but keep it in protective styles (braid extensions) about 95% of the time. presently my hair is APL and is very fast growing. I met a girl with sister locks and I thought that they were two strand twists. I would like to know so much more. Do I need to get my hair cut? Are there certain types of hair that do not do well when put into locks? I have curly and coily hair from 3b-4b. I also have no idea of the cost.

does sisterlocs shrink when it is first put into your hair.
@AlmocadoLondon4 жыл бұрын
Yes. As soon as you wash it it’ll shrink and stay looking that length for the next 12-18 months.

hey Annette quick question.... I have found that the middle portion of my hair is twice or three times the size of the one around my head. Because of this I feel the middle of my hair is not as full as I would like it or hoped it would be. My consultant thinks it's all in my head but others have said it also and I feel it when I touch it. she has agrees to take those big out down and redo but I'm scared that my hair will start snapping and rip out.... so it is possible to.take some of those loc down with minimal damage
@AlmocadoLondon8 жыл бұрын
Hi Philomena, at 4 months it's totally possible to take down and reinstall with minimal damage. If you're very worried you could take them down yourself.

Hi.Gr8 vid! I need your advice pls.I hve a short natural afro & I want to sisterlock it.I hve 3 issues tho:1) My hair grows vry slow in the front & fast in the back, so I'm always tempted to cut the back every 2 mths bcuz it always outgrows the front. 2) I hve damage/hair loss at my front edges & my crown that is hardly growing. 3) My crown tends to grow exceptionally slow!So my quest is whether or not u think sister lockin cud be my savior? Or will it make my crown always look sparse? Thanks...

wait so they get big after awhile.....oh nooooo no no I changed my mind I thought sislocks stay tiny
@AlmocadoLondon8 жыл бұрын
Tena: they get bigGER (in thickness) than they look on the day of installation. After -18 months (or whenever your teenage stage ends) they start to condense and become smaller / thinner again.
