1963, Hurricane Camille, Biloxi, MS, Gulf Shores, AL... My Boss was there on a job and said he doesn't know how he made it. A Ship and Boats went inland for over a mile. He and a crew were in a hotel, 1st floor which was totally flooded out and they had to go to the 2nd floor or be washed away. He said "Never again" would he stay during a hurricane. Camille came North to Virginia and over 100+ People died in the Blue Ridge Mountains from the rain and swollen creeks and streams. One little girl went out of the back door when a gush of water came thru the front door. Her Dad tried to grab her, but the water was too strong. She didn't make it and it took a while to find her, as well as others. The scars on the mountains are still there to be seen on US 29 South heading out of Charlottesville, VA, on the left, so to see it straight ahead on one's right, would be US 29 heading to Charlottesville. Be careful there in beautiful Gulf Shores!! It was so beautiful in the 1980's. I heard Katrina caused much damage. So sorry.
