Hi George I need some help if you could point me in the right direction. After 40 years of playing I discovered recently that when I play my intonation is off. I seem to be playing sharp and I have to pull the lead pipe slide quite a bit out. Is there any exercise I could do to correct that problem?

selpingos most manufacturers set the tuning slide at 3/4 inch for a 440. Players use different mouthpieces. This changes the distance. As long as it is in this area The era of large throats and big backbores causes some players to pull in more. If you use a smaller cup and smaller throat. I find different horns play 440 at different distances with the slide. As long as it is in the 3/4” area don’t worry about it.

@@georgerawlin7511 I play a Bach Strad 37 and a Bach 1-1/4C megatone mouthpiece. We dont get much of the fancy stuff mouthpieces here in Malaysia. I wish we had people like you here who could tweak our instruments and do serious work for us....sigh
