WOW! Well thank you for sharing your mistake with us as an instructor and sharer of your work. To make sure primer is suitable with meduims you will be using for supplies . I actually thought you wanted that roughness I thought that's interesting good idea. Pulling up that shape or how you changed it to add color to it. White contrast vs yellow shade of color also. So also working with canvas was a challenge for me as I worked on a flower scene years ago. I worked on it for days I was really excited about it! First time working on large Space canvas. And having to apply a sealent to cover surface as well. So yes thank you for those comments I thought it was just me feeling that. Apprehensive and how and what to do! I just did it . With zest and it worked out well. Of course it was very simple yet still a challenge. Now after viewing yours . I brought me more confidence. Thank you.

I just love your process. When you said, "how do I make it more me", I got tears in my eyes. It is a very emotional thing isn't it? I love how you paint. I have started my own, it's in black and white and I do want to have more color in my paintings but, for right now it is black and white. I based my blk and whit on your "Diamonds in the rough" painting. I loved the curves in white, the underpainting of dark colors and then more white and more dark, then I got stuck because I don't just want to copy, I want it to be "more me". So I am waiting to see how I can make it more me...waiting, waiting, waiting. Sitting in front of my painting and looking at it...and looking at it...and looking at it. My husband said, Picasso just got on with it! We both had a laugh, in the meanwhile, I am sitting and looking at it...and watching your vids.

That's awesome, Angus - you will get there! The most important thing to do to find your personal voice is play - a lot - and work on identifying the things you love - what colors, shapes, textures, lines, etc do you respond to in your life? Those are the clues in your work as well. When you see them, you will know. Follow your inner voice - but remember that PLAY is the ever-giving spring of ideas and discoveries :)

@@PamelaCaughey Thanks Pamela, it is so true what you write. I have had the experience that artists didn't appreciate the fact that I share and be open in how I make my art, what I do and how I build up the work. I agree with you that there are no original secrets, we all can learn from each other.

Hi Pam. The videos are fabulous. Painting on oil based gesso. I did this recently on a much smaller scale 24x18. Because it was smaller I laid down more tape ripping up as much as I could and found that about 50% stayed on. Then I sanded, ripping up small amounts of paint as I went and felt safe working back in after that. I ended up with a very interesting surface. I am not suggesting you do that because this is huge but I do remember that OMG moment when it cleanly lifted up to bare canvas. Thanks for sharing this and I can’t wait to see your solution.

It's such a pragmatic concept: watch, learn and grow. Thank you so much for your deep thought reminding me that art is a living entity and thus it's inevitable. In my perception, in the vast and complex art world, dealing with an unexpected mistake/ happy accident is like testing and challenging your own creativity. The right attitude and notion, its unpredictable fear, and doubt will boost and promote the new sense of understanding and your ability to recreate art. To me, dealing with mistakes can gear you up to reveal and unlock the hidden potential of an art piece! Therefore, thank you for sharing your fearless endeavor and dedication that inspired the viewers' individual creativity and love for art! In my view, the freely expressed hues and tones of the boundless lines and shapes of golden yellows and sky blues make me think of the delightful spring symphony that welcomes all sounds, colors, and dynamics of a beginning journey! The Acrylic on 7'x8' Canvas, "Oh No! Big Mistake !!!", represents how the value of art can be determined by the skill of an artist. It reminds me of Epictetus' expression "It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters." Thank you so much for allowing us to "watch, learn, and grow" and become a better student in art!!

Did the tape rip off the primer leaving bare canvas? I'd never heard of oil primed canvas - thought all canvas had to be primed with water based primer as oil primer straight on canvas will rot the canvas. Anyhow, I like the marks it made! Maybe you could patch the back or prime the back?

I’ve always been more or less an impressionistic landscape oil painter. I’d love to push my paintings more toward the abstract, or at least add more mark making at some point, probably with oil pastels, but with oils....where is that point? You seem to be able to draw over your wet acrylic paint almost immediately, but I find I can’t do that with the oils. Do I need just to make the jump to acrylics?

Love this bright and giddy 🤗- free styled painting. Maybe someone could encapsulate the painting in clear overcoats of Acrylic. Then proceed to soften the oil priming from the underneath until the whole oil layer dissolves. Then they could separate the acrylic layers from the canvas. Once released, conservators could remove all the white under oilpaint.Then your acrylic layer could be glued onto the new acrylic primed canvas. (You can tell I watch a lot of art videos on KZbin!) Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

You have got me to tidy up my art room and I am now working , yet again, on a painting I started 20 years ago. I do not have as much room as you but I find it hard to be as free on smaller canvases. What to you normally finish your paintings with or do you not add any medium after the paint?

@PamelaCaughey4 жыл бұрын
Hi Marti - I am thinking along those lines - I was going to try liquitex pouring medium over the top and have it reach all the way to the raw canvas where there was no oil primer - that way, I feel it would lock in the acrylic plastic layer. It would be totally experimental, but perhaps would at least work for my show (but not for sale - however, I can foresee chopping it in pieces and giving the pieces away in my new WLG library group - haha ;)
@MWalsh-om3ip4 жыл бұрын
@@PamelaCaughey perhaps you could, of course, temporarily hang it for the show. I am thinking about how my friend and I would encase objects in lucite.and use for coffetable tops, etc. Thinking here about either a tabletop, or keep as a wall painting (now of considerable weight!) which could be (sold for oodles of money!) mounted by heavy duty bolts in some hotel/corporation lobby etc. Plausible?
