Monty Moon Shoes for the win! Some of the art is quite charming in a cartoony way, but the games look like they could have been written in BASIC. At 23:12 we suddenly fade to black but keep running until 24:10 when Sex Pest de Soleil turns up! Is that a bit left over? I do that sometimes, and find I've rendered a video with 10 minutes of content, then 40 minutes of nothing, then 3 seconds of something....

I started computer gaming in 1983 on a Sinclair ZX Spectrum, a cheap and not very capable machine for its time. Apart from the superior colours, practically all of these games could have appeared on the Spectrum then, and wouldn't have been thought good for their time. The motorbike trail riding thing in particular is similar to one of the games I typed in using ZX BASIC.

I've had one of those super compact master systems, bought it on a flea market around 2006. It was horrible, you had to plug it to the TV (RF only) and to a power supply, so you can imagine what happened when you moved the thing around while playing: a lot of interference and bad contacts. The idea was great, but it was not ergonomic at all, so your hands would hurt really fast. Oh! Almost forgot! The RF cable wasn't really necessary, because the console had a little antenna, so it would send the signal to the TV. The image quality, however, was just horrible (if you were able to make it work at all). You could also use batteries instead of a power supply (purely distilled wireless technology!). However, the thing would get really heavy, so it became even worse to hold.

The Master System Girl edition was not released for girls but it was released like a "Turma da Monica" edition. "Turma da Monica" is Monica's Gang (translated to english) and is a very famous character magazine here in Brazil, so this Master System was released to celebrate Monica that is the main character of this magazine and she is a girl (yes, the girl with a blue bunny on Master System cover) :)

Brazilian here, just to confirm "nosso amiguinho lunar" means "our little lunar friend", btw the Tectoy master system is 200 BRL or 37,70 USD. I might be a little high but i think that game with the indian is suposed to be about the children music "indiozinho". "Duendes" are magical gnomes, usually related to the "cogumelos mágicos" or "magical mushrooms"... Literaly drugs.

The Tectoy DVD Karaoke Game DVT-G100 is a strange product released by Sega's Brazilian distributor Tectoy in 2009. It is a DVD player, a Karaoke machine and a Sega Master System all built into one unit. Thats what i want now that i know of it.

So fun story time: here in Adelaide we had a spat of people coming into us with damaged retina (i work in optics so that is why they came to us) anyway, we had about 12 people come in with major retina damage in about a 2 week span all from the same part of the area.... Oh, brother. I know exactly what inspired this cart. It's about someone with multiple personalities, and he's taken hallucinogenics. Presumably, it was someone the multicart's producer knew personally. I feel sorry for the guy who was the butt of this multicart joke. This is something the poor guy will never live down. It's easy to guess that the multicart is some sort of extended joke, but I can say with confidence that the joke is a very sick one. I'm happy to see it being called out for how demented it is.

In case anyone doesn't know, the reason TecToy still sells these systems in Brazil is because they're made locally, in the country, and are the only affordable option due to ridiculously high import taxes. So if you're a millionaire you can buy a Nintendo or other brand, but if you're a regular person, TecToy is your only choice.

my time to shine - “amiguinho lunar” does mean “lunar little friend” in the context of “he’s your little friend who comes from the moon”. that’s right, that thing’s your friend now and you have no choice but to surrender - the game with the native american guy in a canoe would be considered a tad distasteful today, but was absolutely par for the course back in 1997. it’s not egregiously offensive, it’s just… it parrots that same reductive “primitive people in the forest” bs stereotype that was one of two types of mainstream native representation we had back then (the alternative was the french naturalist “pure, mystical forever-children who are one with nature” but that’s a whole other can of problematic worms) - duendes are sprites that originate from spanish folklore. they’re little pixies who run around in the woods and sometimes wreak havoc at homes because they love to piss off humans. they’re not evil, they’re just really playful and devilish in a childish sense. they’re similar to elves, dwarves, and leprechauns, but they’re different. the “magic powder” is an allusion to the pirlimpimpim powder, a mythical dust used by the fae for a variety of things, from transmutating objects/people to shrinking/enlarging a la alice in wonderland to fast-travelling and time-stopping shenanigans. the pirlimpimpim powder is pretty much a catch-all explainer to any mystical trick pulled off by a fae. it’s always used by either sprinkling or blowing and some say humans don’t have the magic in them to use it, which is probably why in the game you get transformed into a duende yourself (presumably by having the powder blown at your face by a duende). by the way, according to some iberian-derived traditions, it’s by sprinkling pirlimpimpim powder on himself that santa shrinks to fit through the keyhole or under the door to enter houses (he’s either some sort of fae himself or a very rare human with The Inherent Magic In Him™ depending on who you ask). the entire game #17 description reads: “a playful duende is disturbing life in the woods. transform into one of these little creatures and blow the magical powder near him to send him to another dimension.” apparently that plan is crap, because he keeps immediately coming back the moment you send him away.

Did they have 128 256 512 in games system sold in malls in the UK around 1998? It was huge here, people did go insane for them like 25 shops in every mall just selling them. This is the first multicart I have ever seen “officially licensed”, most of these multicarts that were available back then were bootleg rubbish…..like the tiger electric games; they were just an illusion parents gave their kids to make them believe they had something cool….when in reality your time was better spend just looking out the window than playing any of those games. To my own surprise; this “officially licensed” multicart actually seems worse than the bootleg rubbish. Interesting! Anyway, thanks for the video Octavious 🍻
