I've replayed this many times since I found it 2 days ago... it's better then almost any anime or video game I've seen/played to a point where even on a replay, the sheer scale of the attacks, and the little details, I can't help but be mesmerized by how well done it is, this is simply better then what most triple A companys can do with a whole staff, thank you for making something this beautiful.

God, this is just... gorgeous. The re-interpretations of spell cards in 3D space are amazing alongside re-imagining spell card duels as super high-intensity dogfights. I also enjoy the detail that none of the surroundings were damaged, because the spell card rule system prevents damaging the environment.

It's crazy to think how his modelling and animating skill has improved drastically, i still remember watching the Reimu vs Remilia vid. It wasn't bad but it is impossible to compare with this masterpiece. The lighting, the movement of the characters, the camera angle, their expression has become more and more fluent and human-like over the year. This is probably the peak of 3d animating.

They did kinda test the idea out with Sanae in Brambly Boundaries but it was more a last resort on her part than swapping in an out like here, it does make me excited for Sanae and Aya to show up, of course Cirno is on the table as well now. It'd be quite fun to see a Cirno vs. the Fairies of Light video. Even from the start MinusT tries to incorporate extra flavor in the fights with bosses who have fighting game appearances with moves from said fighting games, it just makes the videos that much more amazing. (Yes this is basically shilling for Mokou hopefully, since we are in IN right now, I so want to see her use the claw attack from the fighters to clear out bullets.)

I just realized something. At the end, Marisa and Reimu are both saved by their teammate's bombs after their last move. In the game, this actually can happen. If you bomb an instant after getting hit, your teammate uses theirs to save you. In other words, by spell card rules, Reimu and Marisa pulled a double-kill on each other! Again, only just noticed this detail, and I think it's so cool that was put into the animation!

I love the way this is animated. Each and every attack is so faithful it makes me wish a 3D first-person Touhou game existed. The cinematography captures the intense energy and atmosphere of the action so well, on par if not better than a lot of mainstream anime action sequences. It's amazing how you strike that balance between speed and readability. Unlike scenes like in Dragonball, where speed is communicated by people moving so fast you can't possibly see them, you manage to take the viewer along and show each and every action and reaction, as though the viewer themselves were in the place of Reimu or Marisa, without losing that sense of speed and intensity. Too many action scenes resort to slow-motion shots that usually, when done wrong, kill all momentum in the scene. I hope you never stop making animations. I look forward to your next project!

I really do love how I can follow through what they're doing, how the overall spellcard looks when they activate one, where they are inside the rain of bullets, and of course their expressions and _especially_ their preparation for action which is my favorite aspect

I really appreciate the perspective here. Highlighting Marisa's responses through the fight really makes me root for her. She puts the most work into this fight, and I feel that is reflective of how her character is played in the games. As much as I love Reimu, she is the easiest to play and kinda expected to win lore-wise. The work Marisa puts into defeating Reimu's homing danmaku, and cornering Reimu near the end of the fight with earthlight rays(?) is a lot more technical than Reimu's mostly auto-homing style attacks she chooses to use here. Think this reflects the technical difficulty at least I feel when play as Marisa as opposed to Reimu. Also appreciate the glimpses we have of the youkai. Love that Alice's immediate reaction to seeing Yukari is to throw down, and Yukari's response is just 'hi!' Think these two used this opportunity to study the humans' fighting style for future fights. As an aside, I am using this video to demonstrate visual storytelling to my students. Hope to pass the Touhou torch on to future generations.

Marisa puts a lot of work into everything in canon. Reimu's "Ability to Float" lets her just effortlessly float through life. She doesn't need to try (in fact, TRYING is outright harmful to her since it yanks her out of the Fantasy Nature mindset). Marisa meanwhile possesses one of the *weakest* Abilities in Touhou (the Ability to Wield Magic), and manages to walk in stride with Reimu as one of the mightiest characters, not through a bullshit broken power but through sheer hard work and determination. The Grimoire of Marisa revealed that she studies every spell card of every opponent she and Reimu have ever faced, always appropriating new tricks for her own use, and looking for weaknesses in otherwise broken cards. She's a lovable little kleptomaniac, but she's also earnestly determined to be the strongest **HUMAN** around. And is damn well succeeding at that.

There's so much tiny details in the animations and spell details that I'm utterly awestruck. I love how at 1:38 Marisa literally has what looks like a black hole in the center of her spell, recreating a literal Event Horizon for her spell card I love the way Reimu's Yin Yang Orbs at 5:12 move and rotate like there's actual weight in them Marisa's Hakero's parts and components, and the way they reassemble themselves for her Double Spark The way despite how even this fight seems, Marisa's character as the hardworking underdog vs the naturally talented Reimu is plain to see That visible frustration of Marisa at 2:52 where she had to bust out her trump card so soon. One of the best parts of Marisa's character is simply that she's an example of hard work paying massive dividends. Reimu's ability literally lets her just float through life without making more than a token effort. Everything is effortless to her, making her lazy even has her power puts her decisively in the top of Gensokyo. Marisa meanwhile doesn't take any shortcuts to power, her skill barely even puts her on an even playing ground (the ability to use magic is nothing special in Gensokyo) and Marisa's insistence on remaining human as the "Ordinary Magician" (rather than becoming a Youkai Magician like Patchouli) actually weakens her in the long run. Yet she has always been remarked to keep pace with Reimu. Through sheer work and grit she manages to keep up with someone whose ability is patently broken.

Going through frame by frame in that sequence, there was a single frame where you see the Gohei fly towards the screen at 5:02 ... Also like to mention the shape of Marisa's broom, it's designed to be a flying apparatus, not a cleaning instrument. And notice that Reimu's does that "T" pose when casting spell cards as the pose in this context is a sign of religious divinity, a miko of the Hakurei Shrine.

I love so many little details. Reimu uses her Fantasy Seal (2:31). Marisa uses her Shoot the Moon spellcard (3:51). You can see that the illusionary moon is crumbling (5:22). And at the end when they're interrupted, Reimu is just kind of put off like, "Oh, already?" (6:04) while Marisa is downright angry their duel was stopped (6:07). There's so much heart and intensity in your work that just watching it unfold made me fight back tears. Thank you for sharing your beautiful labor with us.

The problem is the deadline, an Hollywood team couldn't do it properly, also they would had stuffs that would kill touhou (like quotas) this is a world of girls in dresses, they look sometimes too young, it couldn't work for all audience, I'm not even sure they could do a movie with 99% girls in it these days... Even if most of them are ghost or youkai and are very old, the US lobby doens't understand that.

I feel like it's because if you work at a company, you would have less freedom. You would get more resources sure, but there will be people who disagree or just a team deciding not to go with your route which destroys the freedom of creativity or just make the finished product not the same as you would intend. We all know that one guy in the industry that would say "Let's make an underwear joke during the flight fight scene" and that would just ruin the entire experience for some people.

What I like about this is that had Yukari and Alice not intervened at the end, this would have certainly been a double knockout. This is despite the fact that this is almost certainly an animation from Marisa's PoV. Mostly because Marisa is essentially showing way more emotion, and we get more close ups of her face in regards to her plans and tactic throughout the fight.

There's a lot of little things that truly take this animation to a very high level, but it would take too long to list them all so I will stick with two I like the most: 1. The way this is portrayed is like a battle, with both participants fighting with a lot of strategy. Most of the attacks they use either have fast projectile speed, homing or have some method of restricting movement so that the opponent has to find a way to evade most of the attack, which is really amazing. 2. I really like how you are giving screen time to all of the playable characters. It gives every character a chance to shine, and encapsulates the feeling that this is basically how things generally go in this world.

I also love that the only time Marisa hesitated was during the activation of Fantasy Heaven, which is the eight Yen-Yang orb attack that’s shown. In canon, Fantasy Heaven is the true extent of Reimu’s power as the Hakurei shrine maiden and was the only move so far to be so strong that it was unable to be used in spell card battles for a while. It was Marisa herself who gave the move a name and a time limit, which would be why Marisa kinda has an “oh shit, it’s this move” kind of reaction.
