bradbeaver - Bob suffered around 90 mini strokes from the early 90s. They all went undetected until he suffered a full severe stroke about 10 years ago. He was left partially paralyzed for about a year or so, but went on to make a good recovery. He began to lose his hearing, also in the early 90s. His hearing loss is now severe, but is significantly improved through the use of hearing aids. Happily though, he has spoken of maintaining a very good quaility of life, despite his setbacks.

Great Presenter and a gameshow Legend. I remember watching Blockbusters as a child and I watched Bob do Raise the Roof on ITV 1995-96 and call my bluff. RIP Bob Holness 1928 - 2012

bradbeaver - I was interested to find out if Bob was enjoying good health these days, as I'd heard the odd rumour here and there that he wasn't. So I tracked down whatever I could find, and it turns out he considers himself to be happy with his health, despite taking a few knocks in recent times. His contribution to the BB DVD game needed some consideration towards his health, which was overseen by his wife. But his appearance in this video from 2007 certainly shows him in good spirits.

Sadly this would be the final on screen appearance of Bob Holness. As his health had been slowly failing after the massive stroke he had in 2002. Then Coliac disease and in his final few years Vascular Dementia. He was 83.

I think give him time and Simon Mayo will become a great host, he presents it like he's been presenting it for years already and he's only done 10 shows.
