You live in a really quiet neighbourhood. Excellent job on the budget build. I'm seriously impressed. Can't wait for you to put it through it's paces.

Well done Damian, another cracking episode! I too want detail about those batteries, i was suprised to hear that ten is as much as 16kwh, that was the cost and pros and cons of these over another type of battery. Keep up the excellent work

Awesome mate! Well done getting the project to this point. Really looking forward to a break down of the costing and the charger video. I suspect most of us would end up spending significantly more than 1K euro to do a similar job but even if we trebled your budget it is still a cheap conversion. Keep up the good work.

This is fantastic. You sir, are ahead of your time, which I guess is why there are few views. This video is so much better than the majority on the same subject. My guess is that your views will start climbing in 2021/2022. Fabulous work, thank you for sharing.

Awesome series. Subscribed. I joined a diy electric car forum about ten years ago but never found the time to get started. Hopefully over the next few year I might be able to attempt a build.

This is a very interesting video I have a ton of questions regarding charging the batteries and on how safe or water is this entire system.

hey! great content, thanks for the idea. I'm looking for a budget build to convert a SUV. Is it possible for me to run this build with two motors in order do make it more powerfull? like one in the front for the fwd and one in the back for the rwd and I could switch between them on the offroad. Do you think that's a good idea?

Very cool, I’m assuming that you will using capacitor based charging, what sort of efficiency will you get? Any chance in designing an open source jld 404? Based on an Arduino or something? Ad that would be cool. Really appreciate this...you should put the car on auction when your done so we can bid. On it!

another great vid Damien ! and a great project too :) im a big E36 and BMW fan, and been thinking of an EV project for a while also a fan of your 8series too, even with the little accident haha really like your videos, and your manner find them very helpful and informative. does sound a bit funny the th to an english man lolz but your straight forward manner etc is one of the big reasons i subbed your channel! keep up the amazing work! and could have some links to the JLD404 from a good suplier and the cool little temp controller from ebay!

Great work! Amazed at how the hood insulation quiets the power steering pump down. Would it cause a heating issue to use sound deadening material around the pump and the controller box where the fans located? Curious just how stealthy you could go without doubling the budget.

What exactly are those batteries damien and whats the price from new?
@Evbmw6 жыл бұрын
Valence Lifepo4. 12.8v nominal. 4s don't know how many p. 1.6kwh each. No idea of cost from new as those clowns won't sell to normal people. Used in Smith transit vans.

end of 2018 into 2019 and im following your videos through till the end. i like how you offered to ship parts to anyone serious doing this kind of thing. im still in the planning phase but im intending to do a 2000 New Beetle. around the tax return season, and so far all is looking good aside from the fact i cant find a good motor and battery pack. not for a good enough price to meet this budget. now i haven't actually gone to any yards yet as i dont have the cash and i feel like that would be rude. but those are the only hangups so far. everything else in your videos i can find close to the prices you talk about. thte IGBTs are a bit more than free. but i can have appropriate ones from ebay for under 160 US and thats not too bad. its looking like overall im gonna be sitting right at about 2 grand US to do my version of this project i just need to lay hands on the right parts.

So am I being a troll by inquiring about the lithium battery loss?
@stevencorrea79826 жыл бұрын
Raleigh Sexton No way am I a expert. But can't you get 40 miles on sealed lead acid batteries new ones? Are those lead acid batteries? Are they lithium batteries?
@raleighsexton77346 жыл бұрын
I researched google for that Charge X battery brand, I got no hits, though I'm in north America so it may be an Irish or UK brand. Certainly appear to be conventional unsealed lead acid batteries. Perhaps another viewer can verify them. I'm just disappointed because the original premise was to use batteries other than lead acid, but I guess another project has required the battery originally purchased for this project.
@raleighsexton77346 жыл бұрын
I should read the older comments before trolling! These are lithium batteries of a type I didn't recognize and Charge X is the model I guess, not the brand! So I stand corrected!! Thanks to ATS for posting the video link below.
