1,000 HP Cadillac Sixteen Startup, V16 engine

Күн бұрын

DtRockstar1 records the one and only Cadillac Sixteen concept car starting up and driving away. This one off car has a legitimate V16 engine (not two V8s bolted together), producing 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 lbs ft. of torque without the use of forced induction. The engine will shut down cylinders, depending on how hard it is being driven. Here you will see the engine interior, startup, driving away, and you'll also see a Lamborghini Countach in the background driving away. This was seen at the Eyes On Design car show in 2013.

The motor utilizes active fuel management. On a light load it'll run on 4 cylinders, at medium throttle it uses 8 cylinders, and at full throttle of uses all 16. Cadillac said it get 16mpg under standard driving conditions, so you can probably get 20mpg, but if you could afford it than that shouldn't be a problem.

I wish Cadillac could make a production version of this car to slot above their upcoming flagship sedan. All that V16 needs is Direct injection, making it even more powerful and responsive. Seriously, if Cadillac wants to be Standard of the World, they should put the Sixteen into production and give it the nicest interior they could put. Set the starting price at $200K and the people will come.

@SamAceRothstein
@SamAceRothstein 8 жыл бұрын
Themayseffect there is absolutely nothing displeasing at all about that engine. who cares how big it is, it makes 1000hp and it's naturally aspirated. it may have the displacement of two truck engines, but what do you expect from a high output n/a single 16 cylinder engine? the amount of effort and work that went into it is staggering. you're completely missing the whole point of why that engine was used in the first place. the choice to use the v16 was an obvious nod to the original v16 cadillac, considered one of the finest vehicles of its era. the sixteen was built by cadillac with the very same intentions, to be among the finest of its era, and i would say they greatly succeeded.
@Themayseffect
@Themayseffect 8 жыл бұрын
Sam Ace Rothstein You are reading things no one said. I said it's a beast of a motor, which it is. Again, i dont know why you are so infatuated with the 1000hp number. So what if it has a 1000hp? It still weighs 5000ibs. It wouldn't need a 1000hp for any reason if it was lighter. Also so what if its N/A? I love n/a cars, but i wouldn't want one just because it makes a 1000hp at the cost of massive weight and horrible handling. This car was nothing more than a press statement, which at the time was pretty cool if you know nothing about cars, drive slow, and just want something that looks cool. The Elmiraj concept is a thousand times better than this with a simple v8, sensible power, but better build quality and weighs far less. Which comes back to the performance aspect. To boast 1000hp you must care something about performance, which in this case there is nothing sporty or sensibly speed oriented about this car, so why brag about having 1000hp? there are 400hp cars (n/a) that would kill this thing in a strait line and probably cars that look nicer and would handle better. So again. If the only point of this car was to hark back to past glory, well cool. Kudos. It is disappointing however that this car has probably never been revved all the up and put some hard miles on it.
@SamAceRothstein
@SamAceRothstein 8 жыл бұрын
Themayseffect i'm only emphasizing the fact that it makes 1000hp n/a because it is a huge feat. for one to not appreciate the power output that this engine produced n/a in 2003 would surely question their knowledge about cars. you've also mistaken the purpose of this car for performance when it's true objective was luxury, which was met in excess while having great performance as only an added benefit. although i highly praise the engine and the work katech did on it in such a short period of time, that's only a piece of what makes this car incredible. if you criticize the weight of this car, then you must also criticize the weight of cars such as the rolls royce phantom or the bentley mulsanne, both of which come in at nearly 1,000 lbs heavier, as well as other cars in the ultra luxury class. nobody expects those cars to deliver outstanding performance, especially track performance, because they were not designed for that purpose and were not built to appeal to that market. the sixteen was built for the same purpose as those would-be competitors, so why are you expecting miracles from the sixteen? weight is an irrelevant factor in the ultra luxury car segment because people don't buy them for performance. the whole reason cadillac even bothered to build this car was to prove that they still had the ability to produce an art masterpiece that could blow away all others in the ultra luxury car market in terms of both luxury and performance. they wanted to make a car worthy of the sixteen title, and they undoubtedly surpassed their goal. for the weight, it's really not that slow. it's rear wheel drive with an estimated 0-60 between 3.5-4 seconds and an estimated top speed of over 230 mph. figures that no other ultra luxury car can touch. your thoughts on the appearance of the sixteen are subjective, and are therefore irrelevant to this discussion and have no credibility whatsoever.
@Themayseffect
@Themayseffect 8 жыл бұрын
Sam Ace Rothstein All your specs you talk about are speculation that have never been proved. There is supposedly only one in existence and it has never been publicly recorded for top speed times, 0-60 times or any other performance benchmarks. I'll let you have this debate because this is technology made over a decade ago and never repeated. So good for you.

what is NA? and you know the Koenigsegg Agera R? and the Shelby Ultimate Aero TT? they have V8s that are 90% close to the Veyron's W16 in HP. I wonder how more powerfull these two cars will be if the hoods host W16s

It's absolutely criminal that this car never became a production vehicle. Plenty of other luxury brands have over-the-top opulent vehicles with ridiculous powertrains. Seems like Cadillac could have been back in the big leagues with this thing rather than screwing around with all those little sports cars and SUVs they transitioned to.

It needs a better looking dash. I love Cadillac's. My father gave me his 1955 Cad. when he bought a 1959 Cad. flat top. Best cars on the road at that time. I will buy a Cadillac any time. We drove them way over 100,000 & more with no troubles.

Cadillac had talented designers! If only they could follow up with build quality and reliability. I just bought a used Escalade. I'd be beyond angry if I had paid full price and kept it the entire time. So many things to name...

I always find it odd that more high-end 4-door cars don't go with the design here and have the frame-less door windows, cause it looks quite good. I suppose to a certain extent it might be a concern during rollovers since the longer unsupported roof would be weaker structurally, but that's pretty easy to compensate for... This design is made even better with the Ciel concept, which has the rear doors in a "suicide" mount, whereas the Sixteen for some odd reason doesn't.

Cadillac should build a Cad. Sports car with that V16 with 2 to 4 Turbos in it to take on Bugatti. That way we can see who makes the best & the fastest V16 in the world. If Bugatti can sell there's 4 over 2.3 million Cad. should sell one for under 2 million. Maybe more than one.

A very interesting concept: I love the engine 'side-opening' just like the Cadillac V16 from the early 1900s. Tough luck getting this thing into production; Cadillac doesn't have the prestige unfortunately like they did back in the 1920s. This is nevertheless an interesting idea.
