Four weeks out? Ouch! I drive primarily in the southeast where I am out 5 to 10 days. I rarely go north of Maryland into New England or go further west than New Mexico or Colorado. Right now the SE is dead. There is the weekly load into mid Florida that requires a deadhead out. With $5 a gallon diesel and my overhead I break even at $2 a mile and I need at least a 600 mile load every week to make expenses. Two years ago I made six figures profit with about the same work and mileage I am doing now where I will be lucky to clear $50k this year. My big money maker in November was a 5th wheel travel trailer moved from western NC to just south of Daytona last week. A 600 mile trip with a 600 mile deadhead without dragging a trailer. Their was no broker just repeat business going off rates that haven't changed for 5 years. I will get it again back to NC the weekend prior to Bikeweek.
