Thanks, is the orchestrator similar to a resource manager deployed in datacenters e.g. Yarn, Mesos or orchestra tor is a different entity? could you please give an example of a real orchestrator deployed in cloud datacenters

Yes, Mesos, Kubernetes, AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, Azure Container Service, and Azure Service Fabricare all examples of orchestrators.

Hi Jeffrey! I am no match to your knowledge and experience so please forgive my ignorance. I think calling Azure functions an orchestrator is a bit of stretch. Is n't it simply consists a set of functions (or even one function) where each function does a very focused task like scaling images or return a list of product recommendations for a given user?

I certainly think of Azure Functions (the service) as an orchestrator. You upload your code (function) to it and it manages the VMS/Containers running your code and it manages the scale out/in and health of your function code. The function you write is not an orchestrator but where/how it runs is managed by the Azure Functions service.
