One of ones are stupid and i dont believe the term "sought after" applies. If it's 1/1, you dont know it exists unless you own it or see if for sale. Back in the day, we all knew Mattingly or Griffey's RCs whether we had one or not. THOSE are sought after cards.

I get what you're saying and from the point of someone maybe trying to profit off the hobby I can see where dilution and proliferation of one of ones can be a problem. I drags down the value of the cards overall. That being said, because it drags down the value of the cards it means that these cards are actually more attainable for more people. Yeah it might not be as unique as it used to be, but it's still pretty cool and some people really like that. I have less of an issue with how many of the cards are being created and more of an issue with things like increasing prices while giving people less product as well as Topps being the only company able to have rights to make official MLB cards.

There’s no reason that rookies coming out now should already have more cards printed than players who were 10+ year veterans in the 80’s/90’s. More than 90% of all these prospects never end up playing a single game in the majors, but they have hundreds of cards printed in flagship sets, while many actual veterans only get one or maybe two cards in a set, unless they’re a superstar. The inflation in the card industry is an absolute joke. Buy vintage singles. Modern and ultra modern will hold little to no value with the exception of a few players.
@despiracy915122 күн бұрын
I find that the really short printed variations that have no parallels to be more special than 1/1 serialized cards. They are a lot more fun to chase. Example: 2022 update Bobby Witt warm up jersey ssp (print run ~300) or 2022 topps chrome Bobby Witt image variation (print run ~40).

This is one of two reasons why I dont have a single 1/1 in my PC. There are just so many, and a 1/1 is 99% of the time no different than the /5, /10, /25, etc, just a difderent color. Ive been going for more actually low printed collections, like sets only 1 or 2 other people may have, or cards that may have more copies, but theres only a few of them with no parallels making it overprinted, for example most insert autos only have a base and 1/1, so there may only be 26 or 51 copies of a lot of them, but since theres no parallels they are actually rare to see.

I think it really just needs to be 1/1 in any given series. Sure, technically any one of those cards is the only version that looks exactly like that. But, that is because they chose a different image. It still isn’t the only Adley relic auto from Dynasty. So, it really shouldn’t be classified as a one of one. Because at that rate, they can print 1000 1/1 Adley Relic Autos in Dynasty. There’s more than enough pictures to go around. That’s the great thing about the Rookie Debut patch 1/1 autos in Chrome Update. They are literally the only 1/1 from that series for those Rookies. And as someone who doesn’t collect high-end, I can appreciate that it makes those insane cards a little easier to purchase since they are becoming so diluted. But, at some point, that won’t even feel that great to ever accomplish if I know that it really isn’t a 1/1….

Yes, every Collector has to consider the era they collect. Baseball cards have changed over the years - manufacturing has evolved to issue what the collector of each time period wants in that moment and to produce it for a profit. Look at the cycle of Prospect, Rookie in MLB, Veteran and Retired Player…how many Players are remembered in time? Thanks Scott, for pointing out Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware. Sportscards are a great Hobby that can teach kids a lot…you have to know the factors that make up the Hobby.

So decades later people will be finding hundreds or thousands of theses one print cards actually exist like when upper deck and some employees printed 89 Griffey rookies well into 1990. Collectors should be watching and tracking these cards when they pop up for sale so the manufacturers can be called out.

Several things on this: 1) There are definitely way too many 1/1s (and parallels in general). They're just not as special. 2) The tons of 1/1s from the high end products like Dynasty and Trandscendent are hilarious and makes me laugh at all those who buy those boxes. They're probably the "fakest" 1/1s out there, if that makes sense. It's like Topps just printing 1/1 on every base card. They just do it because it builds hype, but it literally is divorced from the idea that a card is 1/1, aka unique. 3) Most importantly: If you don't focus on the monetary value of cards, this doesn't matter at all. I feel like maybe people shouldn't be so concerned that a 1/1 sells for some super high price. Maybe it's just enough for that card to be special to you? I'm not saying I don't value 1/1s. I absolutely do. When I pulled my first 1/1 out of my first hobby box I was ecstatic. And I will always keep that card even though that player (who was a rookie) has lost a lot of hype in the ensuing years. And I will always love looking at my superfractor Liam Hendriks (which I bought) and my 1/1 pink Heritage mini (which I pulled). It's really cool to just *have* those cards. I don't care how much they sell for. So because of that....the fact that there are 300 Adley 1/1s that are now lower in monetary value than if there were only 10 doesn't matter to me. If I owned an Adley 1/1 I'd still love it as much as if it were worth 10 times as much.

Yeah you can see the junk wax air of 2.0 coming down like an avalanche. And the worst thing is the high-end boxes that people buy into breaks usually end up getting overshadowed how much they lost on their ROI. Come on second time around and my collecting I'm only picking up what I like and I'm not jumping on the bandwagon of ripping packs and hopes of big dreams. It's actually cheaper just to buy the cards you want them to hunt for them. Don't get me wrong I love the hunt but overpriced wax packs aren't worth it to me
