What I like about this revenge story is that it meets you in the middle. The MC isn't a broken revenge junkie who goes around looking for any excuse to kill everyone (Kingdom of Ruin and Redo of Healer for example), nor does he let people walk all over him, still holding some kind of respect for his abusers while trying to imply that seeking any form of revenge will always be worse than whatever the abusers do, and instead just wait for karma to do all the work. No, the MC here is actively pursuing the instigators one-by-one, calling them out on whatever heinousness they're doing or have done, and makes sure they know exactly why they're getting punished. Plus he doesn't lose his sanity in the process and will still help those around who need it.

My God this is a good manga. A true testament of revenge without the whole perspective change. Light keeps his sanity and makes cautious displays of revenge without unraveling the fabric of society. The writers should be very pleased with themselves and I would argue that this definitely deserves a show premier.

This series has really surprised me!😮 Yeah, it's a basic revenge fantasy manga story but it's executed so well ans actually has more interesting stuff going on. The characters are done really good. Our protagonist and his allies are written in a way that makes you want to root for them. The villains are genuinely evil but also understandably evil due to their culture and societies. I also like how it explores politics and other world building. Light is not just getting revenge but also working to fix the world for humansand using trickery, political means and strategy as part of his revenge. This reminds me of Redo of Healer (which i like🎉) but more heroic and less ecchi. I am definitely buying the light novels.

Yes, you will buy the novel and you will waste your time. Nothing about this manga is surprising, it's something expected in a japanese written narrative. The revenge is okay but that's it, the protagonist never even thought that he's just wasting his time. And of course, you will automatically root for the protagonist's side, it is expected in a japanese story. The villains are written to be explicably evil that it encourages the protagonist to walk down the revenge path. There is nothing about the protagonist that is "heroic." He didn't even thought of sparing his "revenge preys" which he tortures in the abyss "forever." He didn't even thought that the people that he is torturing are beings that has the same intellect as him a human despite being in a different race. They have a life of their own, a goal, a career, a family and a future, only to be written as evil because they are one of the powerful races in a world of hierarchy of strength (just like real life). The guy is absolutely cruel, he is the no doubt the same as keyaru from redo of healer. If he was written to be "heroic," he should instead protect his own race from the other races while trying to avoid any conflict with other races that are written to be absolute racists.

And the issues you bring up are explored. He is working to protect other humans while getting his revenge. Did you just ignore the part where he undermined the Elven Queendom and forced them to free human slaves? Or the recent part where he is now aligned with a human kingdom to help protect them from hostile races? As for the villains being one-dimensional, yes, that could be better but sometimes absolutely evil villains are needed for a story. I don't see you hating the way Tolkien wrote Orcs. Finally, why should he show mercy to his enemies given what they did to him and countless humans? But at the same time, he clearly is developing a good relationship with the King Dwarf and his council and they seem to respect him despite him being a human. He clearly is not racist like his enemies and not all non-humans in this story are racist towards humans. Please pay more attention.

Back here again to mention this, but there's a common theme with each of the revenge targets. You'd think they'd seriously question how a "level 15 inferior" survived the abyss and even wonder how he's able to use all sorts of different things right in their faces. It's a common theme of arrogance and not a single one thus far had the brains to understand their situation until Light cornered them and shattered all hope for them.

I was really enjoying this story, but I feel that after the MC killed the dark elf the story went towards something calmer and even familiar. Like those slice of life fantasy games where the focus is entirely on making the community grow and the MC becomes a kind of Messiah who will unite all species. Which goes completely against the original revenge plot.

It's just to give a good scale on power. As of the current point in the manga, the strongest opponent Light has faced still wouldn't beat his lv7777 cards. At the same time, his EX card (Gungnir) is so strong that even the lv9999s are scared of what it can do, and with good reason since that EX card is powerful even at 1/4th (or less) of it's power. You could easily compare that to 5+ digits in levels if you were to give it a number.
