The UH-1C Gunship was the precursor to the Cobra(1967) in Nam and had the nickname of "Frog" because some said it looked that way compared to the D Model. Hueys had Crew Chiefs/Door Gunners. We were the eyes to the side and back of the aircraft for the pilot, his sight was limited. We were held in by a harness(monkey strap). Was in Vietnam 67 & 68 with Army Aviation Battalion.

The paint weathering on the JSI Merit UH-1 looks very good! Both 21st Century Toys & JSI Merit UH-1 models appear similar in detail quality & function, but the 1/18th scale is huge! I like large scale models.

The rotor mast would be fairly clean before flight. They get cleaned often because of the amount of grease build up. So we try and keep that clean to prevent any issues. The blades wouldn’t have random scratches or anything. On both the tail rotor and main rotor, towards the tip and on the leading edge would have paint missing. with the stabilizers that’s pretty realistic, throw some dark purple globs of stuff on there and it’d be super realistic lol. Grease everywhere after a flight.

I recommend to search pictures in google images for UH-1C in vietnam, to understand the right ammo belt position (7.62mm M134 minigun). The kit is lovely in general, but not agree with some weathering (specifically the blade and minigun chipping), and many small details can be improved. Anyway, this kit is open to modifications, like electronic lights or an electric engine to move the blades, by example.

What an awesome kit, the paint and weathering really well done. Your guns are fine mounted above the rocket tubes. There were so many variants of rapid fire guns for gunners, they had a different mounting, some mounted inside the door on a deck mount which required gunners.. These were automatic fire. As I always say, you're the luckiest model collector in the world :-)

@@MilitaryVehicleReviews Supposedly these 2 ships were never really built as far as anyone knows. It is surmised that the design for the both of them is a conjecture that someone came up with in the late 1950's or early 1960's. The model company IAMI that was in business back then had the designs made, and paid to make the molds for both of them in what they claim to be 1:45 scale. I can't find any literature on the subject matter of who, when, and where these exact model projects took place exactly. There are several books that have been published about ships like these from Rome. Greece, Carthage, Persia, and Egypt. I have seen and am purchasing some of these books. There doesn't seem to be actual established facts in these books also but a mix of facts with archeological conjecture. They have been discovering more from findings in the Mediterranean. Anyway a few history buffs online have pointed out that out of the approximately 8 models that have been produced commercially within the last 70 years are conjecture and in their opinion are not totally accurate. My question and challenge for them is if they can point out anything they know as fact to be error in the model designs, then point it out specifically, and or write a book or paper about it. If their complaint is just based on what we (historians/mankind) do not know because of lack of knowledge or evidence like physical artifacts, then please. STFU. Some one took the time to design these ships to make into models based on conjecture. However that conjecture was based on knowledge that is known at least basically from Greek and Roman text. Descriptions of the sea battles. they might not have provided blueprints to what all of the ships looked like and exact measurements, but I believe that the intent is there to make a facsimile of what was being built and used in those times. If the fact is that these exact ships were never built and used in those times then they are still a closer approximation and guess than not having any at all. I myself have 3D modeled German Warships from the Z plan that Germany was working on in the early parts of WW2, and some of that was not that simple because of a plethora of factors and lost blue prints and so on. So I had to conjecture where I thought that they would place portholes on the ship design based on where the decks were, and looking at similar ships that were built at that time in Germany. So was I wrong? probably because they never actually built the ships. But no one can prove me wrong either because I placed them based on logic of how they tended to practice in their shipbuilding at that time, so I was probably damn close to being right on where they would place them. So If these people think that these ships are just fantasy designs, then they need to draw me up some realistic designs and send them to me, and or make their own models. I happen to like these models, and I think they make a nice set of ship models to display like a yin and yang bookend set. The molds were sold to Ertl, and other companies in Japan copied the models and have made them in smaller scales like 1/72 and 1/350 which is tiny. I did see where there are some extremely small models of a different design that are out of proportion. The rowers would have been giants to the size of the hull, but that is not a factor on these 2. You could build them full size and they would function. Anyway I am scaling them up in 3D in-between my Star Trek models, and will make more video's when I have enough content to show.
