Larry Leichliter directed quite a few Charlie Brown specials for Bill Melendez studios. He talks about the experience, and shows model sheets from the 60s they used in creating the cartoons.
Leichliter started his career working at Hanna Barbera on Scooby Doo. After a short stint at with Ralph Bakshi, he started working at Bill Melendez Productions as a breakdown drawing artist. His first show was the Valentine’s Special. He worked his way up to being an animation director on many specials including Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tales and I Want A Dog for Christmas. More recently he’s been working on Adventure Time and Disney’s Sofia the First.
