“It is not a torment to be an artist it is a privilege”, Bourgeois I said it is a luxury to have time to think deeply and express that creatively. I will do an MA in contemporary art and history with a foundation because I know I am an artist

Saying there's no torment to being an artist but still carrying resentment in her heart after all those years.. A fascinating woman, I wish I could hear her elaborate more on the theme of the suffering artist and human suffering in general. Maybe she meant that even though life can be painful, suffering is a choice

Art can be therapeutic and cathartic for the artist who makes it. But it can also be a bluff or illusion.
@lizzielay80436 жыл бұрын
The title at 12:45 is incorrect. While Bourgeois did have a retrospective at the MoMA in 1982, she was not the first woman artist to. Georgia O'Keeffe was the first woman artist to have a retrospective at the MoMa in 1946.

You can see why it's so hard to be an artist AT ALL in any era reading all the horrific, judgemental comments here. One has to have such self-belief and foot-thick skin to be able to weather all the bullshit thrown at you. Even when you're successful, the shit flies thick and fast. Like her work or not, respect her ability to make a living out of what she loves. End of story.

You have to get in Tracey's Zen like state to understand hehehe. You have skilled artists that let their work do the talking then you have people like Tracey that has no skill that has to bullshit talk her work up of how meaningful it is and needs to put an erect cocks in her paintings to shock and get it noticed. Bad artist but the elite have fell for the bs.

To think that British art critics and museum curators practically spit on Jack Vettriano, yet how they always hail Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst as if they were the second coming of Georgia O'Keeffe and Francis Bacon is just absurd to me. I guess one can just blame Marcel Duchamp for all this and that other no-talent hack, Jeff Koons.

Tracey... The eggs don't hang on to the womb.. they are in the ovaries which are not attached to the womb. I know its artistic expression but it loses expression (not gains it) when you mis -interpret it so grossly. Yes it is possible Bourgeois had no understanding of human anatomy but this would be awfully lazy given your description of her...ps collaborating on art kind of takes away from the whole purpose of creating art in the first place...

louise bourgeois propagates a horrible outlook on life. many people that made bad traumatic experiences feel drawn to her naturally as she glorifies dark entities within a misconception of getting power over them once you make them conscious when in reality she just reinforces them, reinitiates them. her art is demonic. several of her sculptures were inspired by serial killer victims. if you dwelve into this aesthetically youre entangled into misery and in for bad surprises in your life. her art is vampiristic, it draws the energy out of you, except for when you become a energy vampire yourself.

All art is a scam. Art died in the 60's , everything since has been a copy or reflection of what has already been done. Art Historian and Philosopher A. Danto upon viewing Warhol's brillo pad art declared that art was dead. But Art had been dying for some time and no greater example was Artist Piero Manzoni's 1961 exhibition of tinned feces, Then Warhol's brillo pad, and then the last gasp of art was in the decay of the 70's. Now the Tombstone has been placed on Art by the A.I. generated Pseudomnesia: The Electrician and won the Sony Contest. A.I. now generates better art than humans. ART IS DEAD. Just because an artist uses a penis or vagina does not make it art. It is boring and amateurish and lacking imagination. ART IS DEAD.

Ivor Biggun Well I know you can do one of those things,... so try working on the other two !!.. The modern art market seems to have nothing to do with an interpretation of the world around us expressing that with an artistic skill a lot of the time. Now it is enough to have an idea and get someone else to do the work that takes some skill. Everything seems to be controlled by one or two big collectors, and they determine the market as they release and buy !!
