More focus on speed, skating, and skill training rather than just physicality. The game at the highest levels has become faster and more skilled so that trickles down to the youth levels. AAA teams in 2011 would just pick the biggest kids and hope they could puck handle and score.

Watching a lot of youth AAA hockey on KZbin lately. Seems that the American teams are beating a lot of the Canadian teams. Watched one a few days ago. U14 Caesars beat Canadas #1 ranked Nothern extream U15 6-1.
