The expense and debt tied to farming is very daunting for anyone considering starting an operation or taking over from a family member. I think a lot of people do not realize just how dominate corporate farming is as well. I am happy to see more diversity in operator demographics, though, and I hope the trend continues.

Nothing is as expensive as a farm set up. If you think of the examples of lawyer, nursing…..the education cost dearly however to get land and equipment is overwhelming. Making a living off of “the farm” is very difficult these days.

I don’t know anyone in ag who doesn’t have a regular job It’s just too expensive to start up

Not big numbers when there is less than 2% of the population actively participating in farming. This includes farm labor.
