AMAZING AMAZING!! Until most viewers watch your video of the tractor you made I don't think they realize that you have personally manufactured all the parts for this steam engine, such as making all the moulds first then casting and machining everything that is to be made that way and beyond that... having the unit function perfectly and absolutely smooth is unbelievable except I know you are giving a true report of your project!! Beautiful Engine, Rich. A credit to your skill. One recommendation if I may, if you intend on actually steaming the engine frequently, would be to add some more washout plugs and another blowdown valve on the mudring to help keep the water legs clear, and a washout plug on the bottom of the front tubesheet will help to keep the bottom of the boiler barrel clean. Also, one plug on the backhead above the crownsheet will give you access to wash the top of the firebox to stop scale from sitting there and building up around the stays. I see two feedwater lines, one obviously coming from the feed pump and it's heater, the other I assume is going to either an injector or a hand pump. A perfect size injector I would recommend for this engine if you don't already have one fitted is the 1/4" NPT Eccentric Engineer Injector. He makes excellent quality injectors that are very reliable and reasonably priced.

HI, I can tell you must own , or operate full sized engines. I own a 15-45 case and a 20 Minneapolis. I guess this probably will only be run with air. The Minneapolis has just about all the washouts you mentioned. Thanks for the good comments Rich

@@dosdallenginecompany6756 Hi Rich, yes I do operate full sized Engines and have a small collection of my own. I'm also a Locomotive Fireman at a Historic Railroad. Wow! Quite a nice duo of full size machines you have as well! I know this is probably a ridiculous question to ask, considering the amount of blood, sweat and tears you put into building this marvelous engine, but would you ever consider selling it? I've actually been in the market for an Engine this size for quite a while as I don't really have the time or anywhere near as well outfitted of a shop as you have to build an engine this nice. However I do have a well-paying job and I have saved quite a bit of money in my hobby fund for an Engine of this quality. Considering how beautifully she runs, and the fact it's never been steamed, it's absolutely perfect. I use a boiler feedwater treatment called LSB 4000 by Terlyn Industries which keeps all dissolved solids in suspension so they won't stick to the tubes, barrel, stays, or plating and will get blown out through the blowdown valve, it also raises the pH of the boiler water to around 10 to form a protective layer of magnetite on the steel. I also use their Oxygen Scavenger called Rust Stop 85 to remove all dissolved oxygen from the water to further discourage any form of malignant corrosion. So between those and the fact that this boiler is built so heavily I think this boiler would likely outlast me. And I can make special nozzles to wash out this boiler or have additional cleanouts added later on. I quite understand if you never would let go of such a beautiful machine, if I had built her I'd never sell her either. However, if you ever would, the Engine would definitely be loved and very well cared for in a way that would make her builder proud. Quick question, I have a 1/4 scale 65 case. To run these scale models on air how much air pressure do they need to run? And on air will the pop off valve work if it hits 100 psi or whatever they’re rated for

Will run very smoothly on 10 pounds of air- yes the safety valve will work the same with air or steam. I do pressurize the boiler with the air, so that you have enough volume, it probably wouldn't work well if you were trying to use a real small air tank or the like. It does take quite a bit of air when you think of the diameter of the piston, and you know that takes air both ways the piston goes. Rich
