The Drop tanks show in this video are the larger 2250 Ltr model, A lot of them came from the F3 and went to the gulf in the sand colour painted over the F3 light grey. I was in charge of all the tanks at RAF Bruggen, The light F3 grey had a sheen the Sand colour did not, when first applied. But when they came back from the gulf by then the sand colour also had a sheen, the tanks suffered more erosion of the sand colour than chipping, although it had been applied hastily. It was washed off when the tanks returned to Germany but you could still see it in crevices and joints etc, for a long time. These larger tanks were made of extruded Aluminium, with floating bulkheads that could be removed from either section, splitting the tanks was not easy and often showed a lot of wear and tear. The red lines are support points for trestles for servicing or the cradles they were stored on in the hardened aircraft Shelters.

Hello, just came accross your channel, i love it! I used to model when i was in cadets and ive recently decided to get back into it while building an S class submarine that my late grandad was in during the war.. i was just wondering, is there a reason for using black primer over a grey primer?
@SullysScaleModels Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate!! Glad you came back to the grey side! And thank you glad you're enjoying my content. Yes, I use black for a couple of reasons, the main one being if I miss any deep parts of a model, it will look like a natural shadow. And I find that coverage is easier(personally), also think when doing any form of mottling, having a black base with a light grey or white sprayed in a cloudy pattern deeps the effect again my personal opinion, I think most prefer the other way round to me but I think it helps with the effects I go for which is usually grim and dirty or on the verge of being scrapped. It is easier to bring colours and particular light colours up to full opacity very much so for bright colours or finishes. It's like a lot of things in this hobby you find what works best for you and how you wish it to look in the end. You do get people telling you things should be done this way or that but in the end, it's up to you. All that said at the moment I'm actually doing it the opposite way round to what I said as I have only grey primer at the moment lol but still done the same way.

@SullysScaleModels ahh OK cool, interesting points! I'm actually watching this kit on ebay at the moment so hopefully I win it haha. I'll give your techniques a go as they look really interesting and the final model looks incredible! When I used to build the kits I just hand painted them and stuck the decals on, so the weathering is new to me, but I've been leant an airbrush and I'm enjoying it quite a lot and the weathering really appeals to me.. thanks again for the great content and I hope you're well!

Hi Sully. I've just started airbrushing and was wondering what that green 'brillo pad' fabric is you use to get the random mottling effect. Cheers.
@SullysScaleModels3 жыл бұрын
High mate! Its exactly that!! Its of those kitchen sponges with the brillo on. Just gently pull it apart it dose dent to clog up abit so just give it abit of a need and loosen the dry paint, you can also use stuff like course fish tank filters just cut them to 5-7mm thick and that will work as well

Hi Sully, what sized cable did that insulation come off? I've tried some old 6 core telephone cable but it's really tight. Cheers Chris.
@SullysScaleModels2 жыл бұрын
It came out of a 7 core cabe i couldnt tell you what the size of it was but if you get some 5amp fuse wire that will be about the same size as what i used
