The best modeler ever is Francois Verlinden from Belgium. He had a small model shop in the Antwerp town of Lier, where his dioramas were on display. I literaly spend hours just admiring them. Mr and Mrs Verlinden where both very down to earth people, although he was already famous. It was sad whe he moved to the US to start a new business.

@@lpjmodels My grandfather in Stuttgart, Germany had an old Type 166 Schwimmwagen which he found and refurbished shortly after the war. My father told stories of driving it in Lake Constance during the early '50s. I am trying to have one of my surviving uncles in Germany locate some photos of my grandfather's vehicle and find out what ever happened to it as my father passed away a few years ago.

Oh wow ! There is a huge 166 scene in Germany and Austria, lots of lake trips and it looks awesome. Best of luck !

Excellent job. Thank you. My only suggestion is to glue a bit of plastic mylar into the circle area recess of the your side view mirrors to replicate an actual side view mirror.I use a paper punch to make this for my 1/35 scale vehicles. The punches come in several diameters available at Hobby Lobby and some well stocked Michaels stores.

Fantastic airbrushing. For the "glass" cover on the dashboard instruments, try first putting a small drop of clear acrylic in the center of the dial without letting it touch the edges. After letting it dry a little, slowly fill in the rest of the area with the clear until it touches the edge of the dial. It should make for a smoother surface and reduce or eliminate the meniscus forming in the clear paint if applied all at once. For metal surfaces like the rear view mirror, try applying VMS steel metallic pigment (No. 25) to the silver painted area and burnishing it down to a shinny metallic finish. Thanks for a great build and video.

Just found your channel this afternoon - As an armour & a/c builder myself, I identify with your use of modulation, washes & weathering techniques for your vehicle models.... A new one to me, was the weathering of the seats on this build, going to be stealing that idea for my current project (Tamiya M3 Scout car). Looking forward to whatever you've got planned next, James. Best from NZ.
@lpjmodels4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian sorry for the slow reply! Good luck on your scout car many thanks!
@dunhill12 жыл бұрын
The results are amazing and inspired me to build my 1/48 Kubelwagen by Tamiya. The finished model is worthy of any judge's table. My only comment is that the shroud on the back of the wagen was used to recirculate the warm air from the engine compartment vent in colder climates. They most certainly would have removed that in Africa and other warmer climates. That is likely not mentioned in the instructions.
@lpjmodels2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dunhill1 that's the info I needed when building this, I spent a good deal of time googling it to no avail
@HorDaCZ2 жыл бұрын
That is not correct. It was added there because of Africa - it is an inlet of fresh air to cool the engine and this piece of metal sheet cover the inlet from dust behind the kubel. So the inlet is just below the folded canvas top. On the model it is covered by equipment and the engine would overheat, so it is not really accurate. The warm air recirculation goes from exhausts. Anyway, really good job!

Amazing work. From experience I’d say it needs a lot more dust effects. Vehicles in the desert rapidly become one color that covers vehicle equipment and personnel. The dust is the consistency of flour and can sometimes still be there years after the vehicle has been washed and left the desert.

Your voice and accent remind me of a young Michael Caine, so Im automatically associating you with an authority figure! The model is a classic, but there are a few bothersome moulded on details, like the blob door handles and tiny tie down rings. Tiger Model Designs has these items door knobs and tie downs for various kinds of army vehicles. Thanks for your detailed build, Im 65 and have had this hobby on and off since I was 19 and it helps to see another person build a kit fully. Almost all of us need help with problems we have sometimes built up for a long time. Thanks for making my hobby more enjoyable!
