I have always found the workup of this synth painful. I will watch later to see if you have any good tips.

I tried to keep it as dark as possible throughout and work quickly, as fast as possible. Get it bottled into an amber bottle ASAP, purge with N2, Mole Sieves, or instead of Sieves a chunk of sodium. I actually used this for a small scale run of the tribromination and it worked perfectly, no tar.

Im going to use it for the tribromination of cyclopentanone ethylene ketal. It is serving as the solvent and a reagent. It reacts with Bromine to form, "Bromine-1,4-Dioxane" complex which are orange crystals, dissolved in dioxane. The preferred solvent for this reaction is also dioxane since it can dissolve the Bromine-Dioxane complex, Ketal, and HBr very well. DCM can be used for this reaction, but it does not hold HBr very well and thus off-gasses HBr violently. You can use it for alot of reactions tho as a solvent, reagent or precursor.
