You have done a superb job on the B24, I especially like your weathering technique. I am impressed that you didn't break off any aerials or guns off during the build.

Absolutely great looking model, and lots of sweet tips on how to do it :) Some have commented on the rust, but what really catches my eye is the wing leading edges. You weathered those like chipped metal, but in reality they are rubber de-icing boots, which inflate/deflate to pop off any ice buildup on the wings. They may have some discoloration within the black notes, but never metal chipping.

I've been building exactly the same kit for a while now but I've been converting this kit into an RAF Mk 3a Liberator, in honour of my great uncle who served with the RNZAF during WW2, he was the bombing leader for 224 squadron RAF Coastal Command. He together with five other crew members lost his life in a flying accident on 30th Oct 1942. (He was an Observer on the aircraft, FK242 squadron letter 'K'). On that day only the tail gunner survived the rest of the crew perished after their aircraft encountered fuel problems and hit a couple of barrage balloon cables whilst attempting an emergency landing. The Liberator Mk 3a they were in was fitted with the then top secret ASV radar in a chin fairing (it earned the nickname Dumbo). At that time the Mk 3a was part of the lend lease scheme operated between GB and the USA and it retained all its American arnament but had an RAF colour scheme. I've found this Revell kit to be very frustrating, I'm not a fan of all the raised panel lines or the poorly fitting parts, including lines in the clear parts but I hope to finish it soon. To be honest it's put me off buying any Revell kits in the future because the quality is not very good. FYI, I've been paintng it with enamels and have just finished all the interiors. I'm showing the bomb bays open with 8 x 250lb depth charges fitted to the pylons. I'm just about to make a start on the exterior. I don't have your patience or skill so it won't be as good as your model but it will be good for me to finish it.....

Fair comment but, aluminium where the paint has worn off would oxidise and be matt, not shiny

Light gray would be the color of “rusted” aluminum. I’m not aware of anything like nickel in the aluminum to prevent oxidation.

This chromate green is what we call etch primer. This was a way to quickly anodize the aluminium and give a good secure surface for other paint surfaces. The etch primer is really difficult to remove and in my experience stays behind when th top layer of paint is chipped or removed.

Revell’s kits were never really good except for their bombers. The B17 through B29 were always pretty good. I wish they would upgrade the molds and re-release them. The foundations are there to have great kits that can give the modern kits a run for their money.

I've acquired 3-4 of the Monograms (some are parts planes) and am now waiting to purchase the new Hobbyboss B-24J that are supposed to be superior to the old kits from Monogram we'll see. any way your video is excellent and I'll keep it for reference. I’m building one of these right now. And because I’m a masochist who doesn’t think things through, I also got the Eduard bomb bay and interior PE sets (God help me). I’m actually not a fan of the interior, having been inside the Collings Foundation’s B-24. The Revell B-17 does a much better job of representing the interior. However, the Revell kid does accept the aftermarket corrections pretty easily without having to cut out much. All things considered, and given that it was tooled in the 70s, it’s still a pretty decent kit, and the outside actually looks like a B-24 (which is more than you can say about the new Hobby Boss kit, from what I hear). You will get out of this kit what you put into it. Not perfect, but worth the time and money!

The only affordable kit for this plane I could find is the Atlantis (LOTS of work to do with it) and I'm almost done, going with the blacked out scheme from Operation Carpetbagger. Superb built and great experimentations. Results are excellent. The aluminum foil looks stunning. What type of Vallejo black primer did you use? If you use the polyurethane one it will always give you problems if you use water to thin it. My suggestion is to use isopropyl alcohol for thinning. It works well on Vallejo colors (but also with Ammo Mig and AK), my go to colors.

@@scaleresurrectionmodeler7379 you are welcome! I also suggest to conduct some test on dilution ratio before spraying. Depending on the pigment content in each color, you need more alcohol or less. Start with a 1:1 ratio and see if you have problems. Isopropyl alcohol is also excellent for cleaning your airbrush, but remember to do a final rinse with water. Ciao!

I believe there were 2 chromate colours used on US aircraft, green chromate and yellow chromate, one was for internal fuselage and the green for things like wheel wells etc. I always just thought it was all the same...very confusing. Nice job by the way, I too have a soft spot for the B24.

That is to make sure no sweat, bodily oils etc. are deposited on the model. Paint doesn't stick well to dirty surfaces. Before putting the first layer of paint on a part, you can also wash that part with a bit of soapy water. There are many techniques.
