Whilst working on a couple of limited run kits, I wanted an easier build to revive the Mojo. I've got a good start on this brand new tooled kit from Hobby Boss, however, it is not as smooth sailing as I thought it would be.

I really like the TBD as an airplane, the wing shape, how it blends with the fuselage, the overall proportions and shape, I think it is just a great looking machine. Can't wait to see the final result.

Looks to be a HUGE improvement over the old Monogram kit, which was just horrible.

FFR, omit the square brass sections from the rear of the torpedo. They were a 1943 addition for the Avenger.

I just bought this and looking at the instructions I think that you should remove the internal masking from the torpedo window, but leave the outside masking in place if you intend to have the cover doors open. (AS MOLDED)then remove the masking after all painting & weathering is done.

You could be right, I'm past that stage now, I masked it both sides and you won't really see it unless you pick up the model and look inside from underneath.

Two technical issues: The Devastator could carry one torpedo (i.e. Midway), two 500lb. bombs (Wake Island), or six 100lb. bombs (Coral Sea); but *NOT* all at the same time. The perspex "window" in the nose under the doors behind the engine was for the Norden bombsight which was used in the level-bombing configuration ONLY. The doors were closed and partially covered by the torpedo cradle when a torpedo was carried.

I built one Hobby Boss kit. That was enough for me.

Is this the Great Wall kit re-boxed and re-issued??
