If you don't mind me saying. All that metal just transfers shock to the bulkhead/diff case/steering block and other more problematic and expensive fixes. It's better to keep impact areas plasultic and use metal as a skeleton for braces and chassis. Knuckles and arms definitely keep plastic. RPM just came out with some, or maybe just soak them in wd40 for added flexibility to the arms. Knuckles I wouldn't bother soaking. I do admit everything LOOKS AWESOME!! My 2 cents buddy
@DaddysRCAddiction4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching 3 sons and your 2 cents... NaderS Sedagt sent me a very similar comment. I totally get that when you make one part stronger you make another weaker. My feeling is... if your arms are always breaking because of a little tumble(and thats just how the rear arm broke from a little tumble off a foot and a half ramp)... that’s just ridiculous... Arrma did not build strong enough arms for the 1/5 Kraton! Or maybe its HORIZON HOBBY thats to blame now!!! Now they are beefing them up a bit because of all the complaints about them. In a Kev Talbot video one of the arms shatters into a hundred pieces... way too brittle. But when I bought the aluminum arms RPM did not have anything available for the 1/5 Kraton... I would have picked up RPM arms straight away. I don't really launch my cars so hopefully if/when I crash again the Inner Hinge Pin Blocks take the hit and it’s not transferred to the bulkhead. I will most likely pick up the RPM arms for when I do feel the need to put rocket boosters on the Kraton and send it. For now its pretty strong and LOOKS AWESOME!! (your words... and I agree). @@DaddysRCAddiction VITAVON is about to have alloy diff housings for the front and rear and there's 2-3 aftermarket ARRMA parts producers are also making alloy shock towers, all of these parts are made out of 7075 except the GPM parts, 6061 there but they make great parts. but you know what? It' like nosh121081 in his comment says, the plastic parts are meant to bend or even break if you crashes hard. Maybe your arms don't break anymore, but the gear housing will instead, if you let the plastric ones in place, because now they are the weakest point. Anyway! That machine looks awesome, great job!
@DaddysRCAddiction4 жыл бұрын
It does look awesome, Thanks for the comment. I think everyone has missed the point. The upgrade was for a stronger suspension and for better looks that you can not get with plastic parts. Also the plastic part broke when I went over a less than 2 foot jump going very slow... not a hard crash at all... the stock plastic on the Kraton 8S is very weak... I have crashed the same way with the aluminum parts and all is still good. When one part gets stronger another part gets weaker, correct, but hopefully the Inner Hinge Pin Blocks take the hit and not the gear box! Please Subscribe, Like and Ding the Bell!!!!

@@DaddysRCAddiction These people saying this have ZERO experience with all aluminum setups. They're just repeating what they've heard. I have 2 Rovan trucks which have metal EVERYTHING. 40-50lbs absolute tanks. The Rovan MT is VERY similar to the MTXL & nearly every plastic part can be replaced with aluminum. The only weakness on that are the steering links which can snap but you can always find stronger beefier links. Between multiple after market brands, my K8S has drilled a 2k hole in my wallet but it has none of the weaknesses of the stock truck. It's 35lbs & the only thing I can figure happening to it is the hinge pins bending or breaking the M2C hinge pin holder (which I have seen happen even with stock arms) I don't care. I already use linear motion rods for pins & if I bust the M2C holders, I make my own out of steel. Since going aluminum on everything, I've busted was a M2C shock shaft & a rear diff case (which now has GPM cases) I took my Outcast 8s 3 times & broke it 3 times (arms, shock shafts, & shock tower) & it's still broken. I don't want to break the bank on the thing but it may leave me with no choice. If you start breaking other stuff, so what. Just upgrade that too.

It looks nice, but that's too much aluminum in the places I'd rather be the weak links. The hubs I wouldn't mind, but those arms would end up breaking the diff case. I've got the Outcast 8s RTR, only about a month so far, but I've had problems with it from the start. No breakages except for the last one where I broke a shock tower. Kinda disappointing considering how easy I've been on it so far. I've not broke an arm on mine yet. Heard of many people who break them often though. I had what I thought was loose steering but just designed with a lot of slop. Took the front end apart thinking it was loose bolts. I blew tires off the wheels more than any of my other RCs and it isn't even my most powerful one either. Not even top three. I had the center diff bolts come loose and it spilled it's guts all over the transmission. Had the pinion come loose multiple times even with locktite. Stripped out the camber links as everyone else does even with my mod to keep the links from pushing in, rather they pulled out. That's a lot of issues for very low hours of run time. Maybe a total of 1-2 hours. Never got through a full pack yet. Losing hope in it as being a replacement for the now discontinued Losi LST 3XLE. Retired it because of the RCs rarity now.

Hey Lane, Thanks for the comment.... RPM arms were not available when I upgraded my K8S or I would have got them... I don’t really launch mine so the aluminum and everything else is holding up very well. Arrma used to alway build super tough RCs... I know these 8s trucks are very heavy but I think since Horizonhobbies took control over Arrma profit has taken precedence over quality. I wanted to get the 8s outcast but from my experience with the K8S I didn’t. I think if you upgrade yours you can make it very tough but it should come very close to very tough when you buy it!! They need to go back to the drawing board with these cars. I think my next truck is going to be the Traxxas X-MAX Thanks again Steve DRCA
@DaddysRCAddiction4 жыл бұрын
That is completely true but the stock plastic parts on mine just bent and flexed and broke when I went over a foot and a half high ramp... And quality plastic parts are better if you are launching your vehicle like a rocket... for moderate to slightly aggressive use aluminum parts shouldn't have any problems... and mine haven't... Can you post some videos of your cars/trucks and the upgrades you have done to show us all how to do it?

In my experience, aluminum looks great but are better on road cars, not bashers. Always good to have some flex, a broken arm is easy to replace but a bent chassis is not. With aluminum you can start to really bend those hinge pins or damage the chassis. Not much absorption on bad landings. Looks great tho, but then again who really cares when it is meant to fly 40 ft or more…;)

I watched your video some time ago & returned yesterday when I had an issue with the connection between the GPM front knuckle & the connection with the turnbuckle. During the installation of the knuckle I was mildly concerned with the elimination of the 3 pieces making up the “aluminum” steering plate (one composite piece sandwiched between 2 aluminum plates) which attached to the composite ball cup. Yesterday when I returned from running my OUTCAST I noticed the screw at the connection badly bent. I had a hell of a time cutting & removing the screw & replacing it. I referred to your video once again to see if I installed the knuckle incorrectly. I was glad to see I had not, but I wondered if you have experienced the same issue. I hope to hear back from you. Thanks!

Hey Joseph, I don’t get to crazy with my Kraton 8s... mostly small jumps... I haven’t had anything bend on me yet... the outcast is more of a stunt truck so I assume you are doing flips and bigger jumps with it... have you landed awkwardly... like on the side of your wheels... that could bend some stuff... if you are looking to do big jumps you may want to use RPM Plastic arms... they will have more give(forgiveness) but will break if pushed to far. Unfortunately in this hobby things break when doing the stuff that gives you the most enjoyment... which is usually the more extreme maneuvers. Please Subscribe, Like and Ding the the Bell!

Thanks for getting back so quickly. Interestingly enough I don’t do any wild stuff with any of my vehicles including the OUTCAST. I did run into a 4 X 4 block of wood I didn’t see partially buried on the top of a hill. I didn’t think much of it at the time. It seemed ironic to me that the very connection I was worried about when I installed the GPM knuckles is where the problem showed up. I think perhaps I didn’t tighten down the nut on that side. With a loose connection the stress would have been on the screw alone??? BTW, your children are beautiful. My 3 boys are all grown up. Just me & my RC’s now.
