@@microlocity speaking of Junkyard dogs.....SOME models of Hot Wheels and Matchbox have dogs molded into the inside of the cars... just cut the doors off (or tailgate depending where they are located) and the dogs would be exposed also make some REALLY small food bowls and place them between the garage doors.
@microlocity4 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty good idea. I do have an old Mercury station wagon with two dogs in the back. I will look through my old cars and see if I have any more with dogs in them. I like the food bowl idea. Thanks

Thank you! You should try and start your own. It was a lot of fun to build. Check out my latest video about my diorama challenge. Might be a fun way for you to get started. I like your vise idea.
@AlexBabcock-hw9iz4 жыл бұрын
Problem with that is they just look like hotwheels or matchboxes smashed in a vise. You have to think in scale what those car parts would look like dented smashed missing ect. You can thin down metal using a dremel or make fenders roofs hoods trunks out of paper cardstock tinfoil to look like dented smashed missing or removed parts. Cutting doors hoods trunks and leaving them open (like in a real salvage yard) looks so much better then just cars lined up. tires flattened or removed cars sitting on them or rims add realism also. Just take a walk through your local salvage yard taking pictures and vids will be a boon when doing things like this.

Great job on this diorama shows a lot of imagination. Here's a few ideas for you. Get a scale ruler it will help out a lot. For studs being more in scale when doing framing or fence get yourself a bag of coffee stirrers and different sized popsicle sticks. They are in scale with 2 x 4's 2x6's ect. The gravel you can simulate using course sand use pvp and water or mod podge to glue them down then using shades of white to greys it makes a realistic gravel yard. If you try and solder again use a small torch it will do the job of heating up and flowing over the soldering iron which just doesn't heat up enough. The hot glue on the fence can be saved easy enough cut back the excess with a good exacto blade then paint the fence and glue. If you grime up and do a bit of rust on that fencing it will end up looking so much better as an old salvage yard. Finally the printed signs if you use a wet cloth on the back side and wear the thickness of the paper down they look much more realistic and can be grimed up and aged also. The cars in the yard there's a modeler out there that specializes in doing crashed wrecked burned and just old grimey cars. I'll try and get his name he does very interesting things including broken windshields bent bumpers fenders and such. He keeps them in scale by using paper cardstock and tinfoil to make the steel of the cars. Try doing the doors out of cardstock next time much thinner you just make half cuts in the material to get the segments. Can even use some flat plastic and do a section with windows in it at scale eye level. Very cool shot through peaking into the shop.

Thank you for all the tips! That's a lot of good info that I will use in the future. I really wanted the soldering to work. I will definitely try the small torch idea. I think I will eventually go back and add a few changes and details to the diorama. Since you mentioned about adding rust on the chain link fence, I will probably do that as well as add some weathering on the building. Again, thank you.

Hi , I started building my own junkyard.I like your ground that you have with a very small amount of green , what type of rocks did you use for the ground ? . I am not sure what I am going to use for the ground to put the junk cars on ? If you have time check out my last few videos of my junkyard , thanks Mike Espo.
@microlocity2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, the rocks actually came from my driveway. I picked out ones that I would be able to smash into smaller pieces. I used a hammer and started smashing away lol. I wish I would have made them just a little smaller. I glued them down with Modge Podge. I spread a nice layer of the glue to my base and sprinkled the rocks on. After that, I mixed some Modge Podge and water untill I was able to spray it with a spray bottle. I sprayed the mixture over all of the rocks and sprinkled some of the finer rock dust and some green stuff. Then sprayed a final layer of the glue mix. The green stuff is fall foliage from Hobby Lobby. It kinda feels like foam.

very cool, you said you had issues with trying to solder the metal pieces, no sure if you tried, but make sure to use A LOT of flux on both pieces before you try adding lead or tin, try pre-tinning the pieces you want to join as well. Good luck with the channel, I subbed as well.
