Nice work Dan. I feel your pain. Clever idea with the spoons. Turned out really well considering the challenges. I'd forgotten about Vista. Mind you 8 was pants too and ME :) Keep up the good work.

Thanks. It was a tough one, but I must say looking at it on the shelf now, it was worth it.

I've built five of these kits as an adult. I forget how many as a kid. I've lit four of them. Two of them as a destroyer and a tug. Each one is an exercise is beating my head against a wall. It would be great if Round 2 could totally revamp this kit.

Kudos for your fine effort on this one! I've thought about building this kit but not sure I have the stamina for all the reasons you stated. ;-) Curious to know how you used the kit decals as a template? Did you apply the decals to the model, drill the holes and then sand them off?

Yes exactly. (very light sanding required). Unfortunately the nightmare stories about that kit version are true. I had heard in the past about it and often thought, surely it cant be that bad! It is! :)

I had it a little easier I bought a 1990's release of the original AMT kit with the grid lines and those lines helped me to easily find the light locations. Red and green Nav lights are at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions and the white stationary nav light is at the 12 o'clock position.

After the saucer was sealed and filled, I realised my mistake with the clear lights. I wasn’t reopening it!

You've done a great job on this. I built this model many years ago, and it is a terrible model. I'm currently building the revell 1:600 version, which is quite a nice model. Not perfect, but better than that old amt one. Its also my first lit model and I haven't electrocuted myself yet.

A nightmare of a build, warped/broken parts. I didnt go near AMT for several months afterwards. 1701-E was the next one after that, it was better designed. Looking forward to seeing your finished model.
