I love the Lodge Plugs bus at 0.50. I have one of these models and I worked for Lodge plugs for 34 years.

Lovely John. Took 11 years before it popped up on my screen, but you sang so well that made it worth it alone ;-)

The Dog Kennel Hill four track format was a safety measure to avoid collisions if a tram lost adhesion and ran back down the hill. Alternate trams used alternate tracks in both directions.

Dog Kennel Hill had four tracks not because of the frequent service but because trams were allowed on the same track one on each gradient in case of roll-back accidents. The same rule applied to the Northern slopeo ut of the Kingsway Subway but two tracks sufficed there as the slope was sort.

The railings in front of the LCC flats were in fact metal stretchers welded to steel uprights.

They certainly were.... eventually. The Dog Kennel Hill trams ran for the last time in October 1951. At that stage some of the blocks at the top of the hill had normal railings and the lower ones had wood picket fences. The stretchers were fitted after the trams had gone. This postwar view (the tram has still got the headlamp mask but no white paint on the bumper) shows the two styles of fence. www.flickr.com/photos/kingswayjohn/4820941355/in/album-72157624565441092/

The trams are built from plastic Tower Models kits, and fitted with Tenshodo SPUD chassis.

Dog Kennel Hill had four tracks because they deemed it unsafe to have two cars on the same track on such a steep hill in case one rolled back into the other. Similarly only one tram at a time per track was allowed on the section of track incorporatiing the ramp North of the Kingsway Subway and the sharp right bend into Theobalds Road which, I believe, had to be completed non-stop to avoid stalling.as well as roll-back. At 3 trams per minute in peaks this would have been quite a feat,

At one time, London had 2,000 trams, over 1,000 trolleybuses & god only knows how many Underground cars. Virtually all the public transport in the city was electrically powered...
