This 1999 NB Mazda Miata is a little rough around the edges, plus the motor's blown. Let's get the 1.8L bp4w out of the car and torn down to see what we have to work with. It's going to need some love but it should be rebuildable.

I’m pulling my 1997 1.8 tomorrow. First time pulling a motor but I feel confident due to this series !

27:00 my theory is that the mount was falling out when dropping the engine back in, they taped to keep it in place while wiggling the engine into place

The cylinder 4 woes maybe due to over heating since it looks like there isn't a coolant reroute kit installed. The 2001+ have a different head gasket to help fix the issue.

how much did you spend on this motor ? my 97 having the same problem, thinking to replace instead of rebuild.
@NotEnoughProjects Жыл бұрын
All in right around $2200. Most of that was machining cost which unfortunately this motor needed quite a bit of. Replacing with a good used motor is a fine way to go as well and may be more cost effective

i imagine this would basically be the same with the 1.6

Yep should be very similar

Any update on the camper van and chinook?
@NotEnoughProjects Жыл бұрын
Yes! We'll be updating on the Chinook soon now that weather is starting to cooperate. Currently searching for a roof on the van.

Yep the process is nearly exactly the same. Minor differences with sensors etc
