In the 18th and 19th centuries, the ruble of the Russian Empire was in circulation on the territory of modern Georgia.
The Georgian Democratic Republic, proclaimed in 1919, began to issue its own Georgian rubles, which were in circulation until 1923.
Later, the USSR coin was introduced, which lasted until 1993.
On April 5, 1993, temporarily for the period of hyperinflation after the collapse of the USSR, coupons were introduced.
On October 2, 1995, after the stabilization of the Georgian economy, the modern lari was introduced and is still the official means of payment. They were minted at the Paris Mint.
In 2006, the design of the 50 tetri coin was updated, as well as additionally issued denominations of 1 and 2 lari - which we can see today.
