Yep, same here. It's really nice that all the students in every class get to have personality traits and they're all pretty fun. Captures the essence of interesting side characters in Trails very well.

I have to agree, the student's designs are more unique this time and being a smaller school you get to know them better. It's not like in CS2 where for half the students I recruited I was "who are you again?"

Not having generic students was absolutely the right decision as was reducing the class count. One of the biggest issues with the main campus in CS1 and 2 is that it's way too small and the number of students way too low given that there are supposed to be 5 other classes with two years worth of students each. The main campus also suffered a lot from either limitations of the PhyreEngine and/or PS3/Vita hardware with how poorly detailed it is. The Branch campus feels a lot more balanced in terms of both detail and scale.

Just a little tip, when activating Brave Orders, you want to activate them when you need them. For example, at 48:23 you probably would want to wait to activate iron will on Altina’s turn because you’ll waste 3 turns of when the Brave Order is active. 48:27 Raging Fire Brave Order basically replaces Motivate.

Hell yeah! OK, a few fun notes: 1. Yes, the opening is the same as the boss theme. It's called "beyond the Journey" 2. Some Fashion Notes A. Rean's white coat is his best design in the series imo, and he unironically looks really good with the glasses, no matter what Kurt says. B. The sides of Altina's hair on the top looks kinda like bunny ears. C. I checked this, but the belt that Tita has looks exactly like the one that Joshua has had, so I think he may have given it to her, which is adorable. Super looking forward to this playthrough. Great charecter development all around, but especially for altina.

Yay. Cold Steel 3. Not my favorite entry in the arc, but it's a really good one nonetheless. As you've already seen the visuals are vastly upgraded, the battle UI is the best in the franchise (even if it takes some adjustment), and the Liberl and especially Crossbell references get dialed up to 20.

The Break mechanic is OP AF so you should learn which attacks do more break damage (you can also use Break quartz to increase the amount of break damage done). While it doesn't allow you to endlessly delay the enemy like delay spam in CS1 and 2 did, in most cases you can end the battle before the enemy recovers (especially when you combine it with Brave Orders reducing your own delay). The Break state allows you to farm BP and craft points. Also since the Break state causes the enemy to drop its item it makes U-Materials ridiculously plentiful to the point where if you're not actively using them to upgrade quartz/accessories you're very likely to reach the stack limit. The reason why you can't use the Triple Advantage attack in every battle is because they require assault points that you can only replenish in the field/dungeon by destroying containers. Assault points are best conserved for the tough enemies which you can't get a Double or Single Advantage on. In addition while Triple Advantage reduces the enemy's initial break gauge it doesn't give you extra craft points at the start. Regarding Juna and Kurt, thankfully it's not a repeat of Machias/Jusis situation and they get over their differences.

I like to think that Juna did exist in the original versions of Zero/Azure, we just never saw her on screen-there were several large time skips so there’s plenty of stuff the player doesn’t see. There's no in-universe explanation for the level-down effect. Estelle and Joshua ended Sky the 3rd around level 140 and then went down 100 levels when they tagged along in Zero. I like how teenage Tita now has the same pink-ribboned ponytail her mother had in Sky the 3rd.

I've been watching your playthroughs of Cold Steel I and II in lieu of actually being able to play them (Switch gamer only, don't want to put steam on my PC). With the recent remake announcement, it seems like the 1st couple of Cold Steel entries will be the only part of the series not available on switch. Anyway, thanks for filling me in on the part of the series I was still missing. You've finally caught up to where I started the series. Forgive me for bringing up an old debate here, just wanted to share my thoughts. As I entered this game with basically 0 knowledge of Trails, it did a good enough job keeping me following the main story and adding in some backstory even though I could tell I was missing context. I will say the game's story ends up being great even for a rando wandering in like I did, rather there were 2 other issues I had with the game, though they did not really diminish my enjoyment of it that much. One is a structural motif to the game you will notice as you play that you will likely enjoy way more than I did, but I still wonder if you're still going to make the same complaint about it that I had. I'll be paying attention. The other issue I had to overcome early on was Rean-related, and there's so much I want to say about it but I'm not sure if I can really explain why without going into spoiler territory. I can say I don't think it would have bothered me as much if I had the context from I and II before playing III, but in simple terms I ended up not really connecting to Rean for the 1st part of the game. The interesting thing is I would've disliked him, but they actually put in some effort to offset the things I wasn't liking, like they knew it was a problem for incoming newbies and tried to account for it. That's what I think of when I hear Falcom claiming that CS3 serves as a suitable entry point to the series. I'm just a little annoyed by how many series vets seemed to think that claim is just Falcom being disingenuous about the importance of the preceding entries for story context. It's a claim made because the game held my hand enough to walk me through the parts I didn't really get at the time and it didn't have to do that. There's lots of characters I really did like and by the end of the game I liked Rean too. A lot. After I beat this game it ended up being one of my favorite RPGs of all time. You're in for a good time, and I'm looking forward to re-experiencing this game with the added context I was missing in my original playthrough. Also banger OST

Here is a tip. When you select a craft it actually tells you how much dmg or break dmg it does (S-F) and if its physical or magical. If you pay attention to those, combat will go a lot smoother

By the way, people mentioning how CS3 is even easier mostly refer to the combination of Juna's and Kurt's Brave Orders (as well as Sara's) once you manage to break an enemy. But that's mostly later. Expect stronger enemies in the prologue and Chapter 1 to repeatedly kick your ass. As for "what's the point of using normal field attacks now that we have those assault attacks to initiate max advantage"? Those "assault attacks" are tied to the small pink charges in the lower-right corner of the screen, which fill up when you destroy scenery items on the field (though there's a quartz that will make them auto-fill as you walk), so you can't just assault-attack every encounter in a dungeon. Their best use is to utilize against stronger enemies that triggers a "that looks like a strong one"-comment from your team since you can't field attack those, but assault attacks work just fine and those tougher encounters also benefit most from the 50% break gauge effect that's part of max advantage in this game.

Before I forget, there's a key (i think it was either "J", "K" or "L" ) that allows you to read the text logs. It also works as a sort of a "Pause button" and it works in ALMOST all cutscenes. Including the ones where there's forced auto-text. Edit: I forgot you use a controller. Err, I think it should the D-Pad for that one.

Coldsteel 3 has some nice ideas,like the whole break system and brave orders but it does take kind off a hit in terms of pacing as honestly it borrowing the chapter structure from Coldsteel 1 sometimes leaves the plot hanging but we will get there when we get there

Was not expecting you to start CS3 so early, but I'm not complaining. So a few things to note: * From here on out, every game will always have some kind of instrumental remix of their respective opening theme that will play at least once. * Yes, Tita and Agate have new VAs (Brianna Knickerbocker and Ben Pronsky instead of Julie Maddalena and Bryce Papenbrook), as does Millium (Michelle Marie instead of Ashly Burch). Incidentally, Olivier's VA from the Cold Steel arc (Matthew Mercer) is different from his Sky VA (Troy Baker). There's at least one other character that got recasted this game as well. Mueller kept his, though, so there's that. * Yeah, it might take a while for you to get used to Crossbell characters having actual English voice acting. In my opinion though, Randy's was a big part of why I was so disappointed that Zero and Azure never got it; Jonah Scott did an amazing job. * As somebody who watched the entire Northern War anime twice (once in Japanese and once in English), I'm also of the opinion that it wasn't all that good. I'll be a bit more specific once you get far enough into the game. * I like that Brave Orders actually give Brave Points more to do. * Not going to lie, I groaned when I found out that they redid one of my least favorite moments from CS1 here. This really isn't my brand of humor. In any case, I hope you enjoy your playthrough. For some, this was their favorite game in the arc.

Man i have been hella depressed lately. So much that I stopped watching your videos since cs2. I loved watching your videos but got no pleasure at all once depression hit. Seeing you play CS3 gave me a shock. For me it was just yesterday you started CS2. Idk if I will start watching you videos again, as much as I want to. Its not just your videos, I stopped doing everything i used to love.piano, chess, video games, exercise, i just stopped everything. Will force myself to start exercising again tomorrow. Once I feel better will start commenting on your cs2 vids😅. This is not me trying to be para social or anything, i just want to talk into the void. It just makes me sad, i can no longer enjoy even a simple youtube video, that i used to love.

@@Nova_Silver I guess so. The Evo style had it's charms. However I am liking their own engine as well. Looks better than some triple a games out there these days. Or at least all the budget hasn't gone into looks with a dreadful mediocre gameplay.
