Neewer 660 with the remote and LCD display. (Your video pushed us to buy, lol). Savage Location pro ($150 used but has a fan that's not perfectly quiet) with a Godox softbox and grid. Also, misc color back lighting. Looking forward to trying the aputure mc for this next

Indoors, I bounce my light from my floor lamps against adjacent walls to diffuse the light. Outdoors, I try to find shades areas like you mentioned in your video

I use a soft box but that tip about putting a shower curtain over the window and using the sun is definitely a trick i'm going to try. Thanks.
@TSGEnt5 жыл бұрын
Great tips! Along with audio, lighting is often overlooked. If I may bring a little clarity to a couple things mentioned? 1:18 1. When it comes to light being closer it's actually the diffuser being closer to the subject that helps reduce shadows and hard light. Distance between the light source and the defuser is key. If you have a light source very close to the defuser and you move both light and defuser close you'll get harder light. Back off that light source and keep the defuser close, softer light. This is why a shower curtain works so well with the sun. Curtain close, Sun far. 3:00 2. Be careful when white balancing after bouncing. When the bouncing object isn't bouncing the same color as your main source color temps will be different. For example, if the noonday sun is to the right of the subject and you bounce off a brown wall on the left, your white balance will interpret somewhere between 5500K and 2500K. This will cast an oddly blue hue on the right side of your subject. I would rather (and this is just preference and scene, and mood, etc.) white balance to the sunlight and allow the redder colors bounce to my subject. Little warmer and may seem more natural. Grab a silver-coated car sunshade to use as a bounce. Here's an inexpensive possible solution amzn.to/31A21bK That will help keep color temps more balanced no matter the main light source color temp. As for that 1 dollar camera? Maybe not at the Dollar Store, but it can be done.
@nolanmolt5 жыл бұрын
Thanks!! Appreciate it. Yes, good point. When I say that a closer light makes softer light, really I mean that the closer light "source" (for example the diffusion) creates a soft light. I wouldn't recommend bouncing off a wall that's red/brown because obviously it'll turn your light to that color and won't do a good job bouncing light back. A whiteboard is good because it bounces like back and doesn't change the color of the original light source. I'd love to see a $1 camera, haha!
@TSGEnt5 жыл бұрын
@@nolanmolt Right on. Challenge on! I'll find that $1 camera!

I couldn’t find the frosted version of the shower curtain I like to use for diffusion at The Dollar Tree and was a little worried that their white version would be too opaque so I bought both the white shower curtain and also a white party table covering. The table “cloth” is a papery-feeling thin plastic with no shine to it. It is a little thinner than the white shower curtain and it worked beautifully over my window that streams very bright sunlight. I’m in Southern California so the light is quite bright and there are rarely clouds to soften it. Thanks for this video. Solid tips. It’s also good when you’re shouting outdoors to shoot when it’s cloudy. People think they need the sun but like you said about shooting in shade with a shady background, that’s your solution to bouncing light and softening it. Clouds are great diffusers.

I love your videos. They've been really helpful as I try to improve my work. I'm doing more live streaming and I've bought some lights to light both me and my green screen. I'm using a Neewer LEDP260 as my main light and a Neewer Bi-color as my hair light. My question is whether there is a way to use my Sekonic L-758DR light meter to know how bright to set the lights. I'm currently using a Logitech C920 webcam but I've ordered a streaming card so I may change to my Canon 6D for my camera. I hate just eyeballing the brightness on the screen each time I set up. Since my room does have window light, the ambient lighting changes throughout the day even though I try to block most of the outside light. For that reason, I can't just set it and forget it. Any help is appreciated.
