I am from the US and lived in Braintree for 14 years then moved to Halstead for 4 years. Braintree is truly a beautiful place if you step out of your normal day to day living and appreciate it for what it is. The history is absolutely amazing! Very nicely done.... Great interviewing and great editing... I lived in the area from 1975, when it was still a lovely slow old market town to 1980. The market was 90% fresh food. When I moved there you could often come across true Essex rural locals who, if you could understand them, would tell you they had never travelled outside Braintree..

Thanks very much, that means a lot. I’ve worked on my editing to improve it and I often criticise myself before I put the vids out, so your comment is much appreciated! Cheers for the past insight of the town as well, very interesting 🤟🏼

@@ADayintheUK If you return to N.E.Essex... See if you can find a real local with a true Essex Country accent. The first two guys I met up there had such deep accents they were incomprehensible. Waiting at the bus stop for the first time in January 1975 I asked a lady if she was a local. She had been there for 25 years and now been accepted as a resident, but if she was ever accepted as a local it would not be for at least another 25! Man, things have changed lol..

Was born in Braintree in 2000 in Bocking, the cottage opposite the Church which is now the pub... I am 22 now but lived in Braintree all of my life, I have seen it change quite a bit growing up. I feel Braintree used to have more going for it back when I was growing up, you would have local events and competitions and a small festival that would happen in the park. There was more sense of a community I think back then and there was a lot more to do, maybe that's down to the invention of smart phones though probably... I remember sitting down the skate park when they had the small festival on and watching the skating competition that used to happen, still got loads of old negative photos of that day. Does anybody remember Riverside Swimming Baths and the berry picking allotment that was behind it? Thanks for posting the video, currently in Surrey and cannot wait to go back to my home town, see so many local faces in this.

This was a great promotion of the market and Braintree, you had a lot of gems in this and filled it with a lot of content in such a short space of time! Couple of other gems I would have liked to have seen featured (hopefully a round 2!) - the chophouse which has won awards I believe and also the realised dream and effort of the same person who came up with 'Toast' -someone else commented about the silk mill which has an upcoming event I believe -the mill which would lead you to a nature reserve -the back of Braintree Station which leads alongside the river and crosses a small waterfall of sorts a nice walk -the library and registry office -the local butchers who does a lot for the Braintree community plus how many places still have butchers? -the BHF used to be a cinema and is now a second hand furniture store, they have quite a lot of charity shops which could have been a great feature! -some more history on the schools from the past and some old photos of Braintree to compare to then and now -the boars head is great too -and family friendly and the host with the most Mem Has cafe -There's a pie and mash shop too -and a stationary shop run by Simon who also does print outs and that sort of thing! Anyway that's just my thoughts as I love so much about this little town. But this was such a good watch! Now sharing with others who I know will also love this Vlog! Thanks for spending time on this, would be great to see more!

Another great video. (Why haven't Anglia TV snapped you up to make half hour TV slots??) A couple of little points. The "U" is silent, It is "Cor - TOLDS" (They actually made the Queen's Corrnation gown. My Aunt worked there ... until they discovered she was 14!!) If you'd have gone a liitle further down from the lockup, there is a big white wood building which is the Cortaulds silk mill museum - again, open to the Public. You caught the market on a good day; it used to be a thiving market, but then fell into decline with about 4 stalls. Seems now they've pedestrianised the area - news to me! - it has grown significantly. I get the feeling it was filmed a while ago as now - opposite the school, and behind the town hall is a HUGE hotel complex being buillt. It is actually as tall as the town hall clock tower, extends out the length of the school, and all the way down to the next street (where the Embassy cinema is now Weatherspoons) where the 1930's bus station used to be. You also missed one of the "highlights" of Braintree - Braintree Freeport shopping a village about a mile out of town. About 50 shops - and as many customers on a good day - and is a place you'd visit once ... and wouldn't want to go back to a second time !! Oh, and in Great Square in front of town hall, in the area where Tescos now stands, it used to be a cattle market.
@ADayintheUK3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for you feedback as always Chris, and for the praise! This was filmed roughly 2/3 weeks ago. I was lucky as the town was buzzing when I turned up to film. I really like Braintree, it doesn't deserve some of stuff said about it!

Braintree used to be a lovely town, but sorry to say it no longer is, your making Braintree sound idyllic , but the council we now have are intent on ruining it and The Braintree heritage is fast being eroded. Those of us who have been here all their lives can see and understand what I'm saying. Yes we do have many lovely land sites but they are being over ridden by all the massive building of huge housing estates. I can remember Braintree when you could buy everything!! Loads of different shops, but now? Well what can we say, they have all gone.
@terencephillips6833 Жыл бұрын
Yes I remember Braintree back in the 1950s , I think the shops have disappeared due to online shopping, these places like Amazon hold stock far in excess of any local store could …But you know I find it very convenient to sit in my armchair and browse through the products at leisure from a vast stock and then have it delivered to my door within 24 hrs , modern times I suppose, I like it in parts but not in others .
