I loved all of it. When you got to the point of talking about using your own blood for the divination sticks or runes, I got excited. Mostly because I had made my own runes from diamond willow branches (as is a common tree in Interior Alaska) and I wanted to stain them with my own blood, but felt silly. You touched on that subject and actually USED the term, "adding your own essence". So now I don't feel silly. I create items for my altar myself too because I feel that adds my essence. For me it's a psychological thing, as I'm atheist with animistic beliefs. To intentionally add myself to something that I use in practice makes sense. Oh and thank you for your accounting of women in Germanic roles as far as how they were viewed. That was beautiful.

Good morning. This was very good. It made me think of the oracle of delphi. Speaking of birds, hawks leave me feathers around my house all the time. I see them when I’m driving etc. I had a very strange but what I thought was an amazing encounter one mid morning at my house. A hawk flew onto a low branch behind my neighbors house and I was in my backyard. I looked over at it which was somewhat far away and the hawk flew straight over to me and landed at my feet a tiny bit off to my right foot and turned it’s head a looked at me straight in my face for a few seconds and then flew away. I was amazed and honored at the same time. Anyways, very nice to see you more close up. Mi sei mancata.

Arith Härger oh I definitely believe in calling upon the ancestors. Since I was raised in a pagan home my Italian/ Norwegian mother said that hawks belong to the gods and she felt it was their way of acknowledging me on that day because of the path I try to follow and example and teaching I give when the times are appropriate. You don’t have to believe in a Judea /christian way to have knowledge wisdom or be a good person. I have to say i felt honored for sure.

I loved this particular lecture very much on every level. ;) Thank you, also on behalf of our Frisian king Redbad (Rathbedo Regis), who tried to hold Willibrord accountable for defiling the sacrificial cattle of the Gods. He is still remembered here. The divination with horses resembles early medieval stories in Friesland where a span of (often white) oxen were set free to decide the building a church. Where they stopped, the church would be built. The white color echoes the bright white oxen, horses and sheep reserved for the Gods that Redbad king tried to protect on the holy island (possibly Helgoland) around the year 700 CE.

Wow! I've heard a number of references to understanding the 'green language' of birds. Morihei Ueshiba describes a vision of Light (it's described on Wikipedia) during which bird song was intelligible. I saw someone on a you tube comment (pinch of salt) they didn't seem to realise what they were saying but this lady saw the Light, during which a little bird alighted on a tree nearby and stated clearly 'fear not, fear not'

Thank you for making this video! I've read various translations about the type of tree to be used to fashion Rune lots, in some it says a nut bearing tree and, in others, it says a fruit bearing tree (I'm speaking of the Germania of Tacitus). Is this ambiguous as far as you know or are you certain that it is supposed to be from a nut bearing tree?

A lot of scholars claim that there is no evidence for runes being used for divination in ancient times. However Ive been reading Caesar, and in his account of the campaign against Ariovistus, the German warlord who had crossed the Rhine on the invitation of some Gauls and who had come to usurp them and become a general nuisance, it is related that Ariovistus takes the advice of the women in his tribe who consult the runes. As soon as Caesar learns of this, and of what the runes have told Ariovistus (that he shall not attack before the new moon), he is able to make use of this information and defeat him. In general, it is surprising if we read Roman battle history, that the Germans aren't the simple brutes they are made out to be, but rather strategists of uncanny, almost eerie cleverness and foresight. Much of this is explained if we realize that they did indeed use the powers given to them by the Allfather.

White horse, or Nightmare (En), Сauchemar (Fr), Merry-Lwyd (Welsh) - is the very first "Woden", the magic Horse that brought the souls of dead people over to another world. The image of a male shaman was later mixed with the image of the Horse of the Dead, but the "Owner" of the herd of horses was an old woman / female deity.

As always a very informative video. Thanks for that. My only point of critism would be that you are talking about the Germans and Norse. I think you mean the Germanic, right?
@ArithHärger5 жыл бұрын
I've explained in this video that I'm purposely making that distinction - Germans as in Germanic peoples of continental Europe and Norse as in Scandinavians, from the Scandinavian Peninsula. In many magico-religious activities they were quite different and so were most of their gods, and I think on the next video you will understand that when it comes to Seeresses/Prophetesses, quite different their ceremonies and ritual in Central Europe and in Scandinavia.

11:41 "sacred cattle" Now this interests me. I know the German(ic)s sacrificed cows, among other animals historically to different gods. They certainly did not hold the Hindu view towards bovines. But you bring up here sacred cattle. The only thing that this could relate to that I can think of would be the cattle carrying along the statue of Nerthus. But I cannot remember whether these cattle would be killed afterwords or not, as I know certain priests were too I believe. I must apologize that my memory of Germania by Tacticus is at the moment a little shifty right now. Edit: oh you did mention Nerthus later on (I'm typing as I watch which admittedly is never a good thing to do, but this is such a long video that I want to make sure I don't forget questions I have). That said, do you still think that Nethus' cows would have been these sacred ones? Could you expand a bit on what these sacred cattle were all about earlier? Oh another thing: 24:15 This horse divination seems to me as if the horse would become a shaman. Shamans are commonly possessed in their proceedings in Siberia, for better or worst. This sounds much the same, but instead with a horse instead of a person. Commonly it isn't even the shaman who would learn from the entity anyways, but rather those who observed the possessed shaman in what they said/did while possessed. Now you did mention it was the chariot itself which would become used, not the horse technically. But its a possibility for sure.

Has anyone Experienced this coming across a dead raven I never had until last week . anyone interested to explain their interpretations? Because after listening to Arith’s informative and very interesting videos recently and learning so much I feel like this raven phone situation explained in this video couple minutes long of what looks like a kind of accidental ritualistic event? I never want to see a dead raven again actually as it filled me with sadness , not disgust or horror. But on the positive side no one picked up the phone as they would not have looked for long as they past the poor dead raven. So it is a good omen or bad? or just a weird coincidence. I’m not trying to look for evidence to prove or disprove either one but I would be interested in reading any comments perspectives and thoughts on this or start a conversation about it in a kind of safe Non -judgmental and respectful atmosphere on this topic I will post the link if any one interested or Arith if you read this

Thank you for another excellent video. A question: May I assume that new pagans no longer sacrifice (hopefully) humans or (hopefully) animals? If not, do the gods care? What do you sacrifice instead?
@deathmorphosis5 жыл бұрын
Animal sacrifices very much still exist within certain groups and sects.
@callummason65895 жыл бұрын
Human sacrifices still exist, look at all the wars through history, there is power in that that our elites use against us. Not everyone is made to be a witch or wizard like odin or freyja, i wouldn't relish having to do a sacrafice or be sacrificed but we must understand that there is magical power in the act that we currently are unable to access.
@margaretwhitmer27155 жыл бұрын
@@callummason6589 Humans are still sacrificed by the elites today, but not in honor of the gods, but in the name of earthly power, greed, etc., so not quite the same thing? I just wonder if the letting of one's own blood would suffice these days, rather than the taking of a life. Otherwise, perhaps I must seek some kinder and gentler "divine" guides.
@callummason65895 жыл бұрын
@@margaretwhitmer2715 humans are sacraficed in the name of yawah, not just money, he is also a god, a spiritual entity just like our own gods, they are devine beings and forces of nature together. What you sacrafice may depend on the effect you want in the world, the power of the spell or the nature of it as you have lighter magic of healing and darker magic of chaos. if you look into our myths you may find inspiration as to what is a suitable sacrafice or offering to the diety's you are negoiatiting with, some may like food and flowers , other gods with a darker nature such as woden may need more.
@Jacob-ot3qw5 жыл бұрын
Margaret Whitmer we can offer sacrifice to the gods or our ancestors in a more modern way. Such as, pouring a horn of mead, saying a blessing over it and pouring it to the earth as a gift. We can also offer food to the gods, some people put the food into a fire, or leave it outside on an altar or rock. Another example, when i was a child i found a beautiful stone while i was with my grandfather. He recently went with the ancestors, so i poured a horn and returned the stone to the earth by burying it, to honor him. And of course, yes, some still sacrifice animals. However, its done humanely and the animal is given more respect than how animals are killed for the grocery store. Whatever feels right to the individual doing the ritual.
