Works great but left is right and right is left😂. Doesn't matter because I'll only use it for music. I followed your instructions carefully. But instead of a Jack i wired it directly to a cord. 👍 easy install. Thanks man

Can you please drop a link for the parts I would need for this please?

Most likely going to do this since fiddling with my FM transmitter all the time is driving me nuts lol. Great video thank you . A few questions if you wouldn't mind answering them/ have the time: 1: I have the other larger style stereo system in my 06 GXP, will this mod be pretty much the same? 2: how would you do it for the 5 position version, do you have a video for that/ could it be explained easily in a comment here? 3: Would I be able to skip the panel jack part and just wire an aux cable straight into the XM audio feed? Cheers :D

1. This should work for most cars with the separate XM receiver. 2. Easiest way to explain is it gets wired like a headphone jack by referencing the part diagram. 3. If you plan on having XM and AUX capability you definitely need a 5-position panel jack.

@@diymakerdan pretty sure mine has the same harnesses on the back so should be good to go on that. I'm never going to use XM so I'll just follow your method and then instead of taping off the ends Ill use insulated quick disconnects for the cut XM parts, from the harness and to the panel jack so I can just swap it back if I ever need to. I would like to do the 5 position method so I wouldnt have to ever pull the panel off to do it, not that I most likely ever will since I mainly play stuff off my phone with an FM transmitter at the moment, but it would be nice for the next guy who drives my car if they use XM kinda deal, I've repaired headphone cables and earbuds with in line mics but I'd have no idea where to connect what besides the three you show in the vid for the 5 position jack/ other XM wires, was hoping I could just splice a line into them without fully cutting them. I don't think my local store sells 3.5mm 5 position jacks anywhoo. Thanks for the reply

Uh, so I have the second harness going into the back of my stereo unit but for some reason my band button wont go into the xm stations :/, any ideas?

I went direct to a cord, no jack

Yeah I ended up taking my stereo completely apart and using a multi meter to probe the solder connections to find the left right audio channels and ground then just soldered a simple aux cable to that and ran the wire to a jack that I can now plug an aux cable into

Hello Dan, Do you know if your method would work with a Pontiac VIbe 2008 radio ?
@diymakerdan2 жыл бұрын
So long as it has a separate XM receiver with the audio feeding into the radio it should work the same.

@@diymakerdan Ok thanks a lot. I have access to XM sirius radio. Would this be a seperate XM receiver ?

for anyone doing this never cut wires together like that ever its a good muscle memory to have and cut wires separately
@diymakerdan2 жыл бұрын
Given the fact I am certain of the wires I am dealing with for this application whether cut one at a time or all at once it makes no difference as there is no voltage present in the signal feed wires.

Cool.

I don't get why you wouldn't do the 5 pin and keep the XM ability. I get that YOU don't plan to use it. But if you sell the car , the next owner might want it. Do it right and be done.

I did the 3-wire because my preference is hearing silence over the annoying preview channel if the radio is switched to XM with no cable plugged in the 1/8" jack.
